Romeo or Giuliano? We are an Italian family living in the UK.

I know a great Giuliano. :) Romeo seems a tall order for a future young man to live up to.

AppleButterfly · 05/01/2022 21:25

Romeo. Easier to pronounce.

Rodion · 05/01/2022 21:25

I think it depends. Romeo won't have any problems with other people's pronunciation or spelling, but Giuliano won't have any associations with his name that people will like to point out and may get annoying.

On balance I would go with Romeo I think, but either is good!

I prefer Giuliano. I’d assume a Giuliano was from an Italian family, but I wouldn’t assume the same about a Romeo. Depending on how flexible you are with pronunciation, Giuliano might be easier, as the UK pronunciation for Romeo (across most of the country at least) is Ro-me-oh, with the emphasis on the first syllable.

Romeo is not a name you should inflict on your child OP.

ofwarren · 05/01/2022 22:02

I prefer Romeo

Giuliano, I think, People won't pronounce Romeo correctly.

ScreamingBeans · 05/01/2022 22:04

Giuliano.

As long as you don't mind him being called Julio, Jules etc. for short

Sonata13 · 05/01/2022 22:08

I know a Giuliano that is almost a saint he is so kind and thoughtful.

Giuliano.

Love Giuliano

Romeo is one of a very small number of names that - in Britain at least - has unshakeable associations with a fictional/ historical character. Like Adolf or Valentine. I'd probably avoid if he'll grow up here.

I agree with this. Both beautiful names though.

Romeo will be Roam-ee-oo not Rom-ayo

Giuliano will be misspelt as Guliano, Juliano etc
