Frank?

Set on Francesca if I have a girl to honour my late grandmother.
Please help to settle a debate within our house for if we have DS. DH likes Franklin but there is something about it I just cannot love, I think it sounds very American.
I much prefer Frank. Please help me to persuade DH that Frank is a stand-alone name

Frank is a stand alone name and much much nicer than Franklin imo.

Enko · 03/01/2022 11:14

Ps yes I agree Franklin sounds American

harriet465 · 03/01/2022 11:16

Thank you. I tried to tell DH they are two very different names but he is more for Franklin at the moment

Frank makes me think of Frank Spencer! Is Francis close enough to Francesca to feel like a tribute? Franklin does sound American and also too much like the trend for having surnames as first names.

harriet465 · 03/01/2022 11:19

@BonnesVacances I was unsure if Francis was a nice name for a man or if it was too feminine

Francis is lovely and obviously can be shortened to Frank.

If I have another they will be Frances or Francis Smile

Enko · 03/01/2022 11:22

Francis is very much a male name imo not too feminine. Very Catholic though if that bothers you.

FlamingoDust · 03/01/2022 14:40

Definitely a stand alone name. I know a lovely teenage Frank!

Luredbyapomegranate · 03/01/2022 16:47

It is not, it’s usually short for Francis/Francisco, the male forms of Frances/Francesca.

I’d go for Francis, but Francisco has swagger Grin

RuthW · 03/01/2022 17:05

I don't like Frank as a stand alone name. I like Franklin or Francis.

strawberrymilk7 · 03/01/2022 17:12

I like Francis, we have a Frances and a Francis in my family (opposite sides). I think it works well for both of them.

toastofthetown · 03/01/2022 17:26

Frank is in the top 200 and there were over 300 baby Franks born in 2020, so definitely works as a standalone. I prefer Francis to Frank, but either are nice. I'm less keen on Franklin.

Crowdfundingforcake · 03/01/2022 17:27

Like Frank. Like Francis even more. Not keen on Franklin.

Firebird83 · 03/01/2022 19:48

I like Frank short for Francis, but I do think it’s fine as a stand-alone name.

CallMeNutribullet · 03/01/2022 19:55

I like Francis and yes it's very Catholic. Probably not a pleasant association but Robert Carlisle's character in Trainspotting is called Francis Begbie.

Ilikecheeseontoast · 03/01/2022 20:00

Francis shortened to Frankie or just Frank!

mum2jakie · 03/01/2022 20:01

My grandad was a Francis, although he went by his middle name.

Hopeishere52 · 03/01/2022 20:04

Francis

Hendersonsisnotrelish · 03/01/2022 21:29

Frankie?

Hopitihop · 03/01/2022 21:32

Quite frankly I don't like Frank much.. sorry for this but I find the sounding quite strong and not feminine.

Good luck though, you can't please everyone, go for the one you like x

SophieKat1982 · 03/01/2022 21:34

I much prefer Frank. It’s a strong and very cool name.

user1493494961 · 03/01/2022 21:37

Prefer Francis.

CatsArePeople · 04/01/2022 11:25

Love Frank. Francis or Franklin are both nice too.
