I'd go with Agatha otherwise you'd be setting her up for a lifetime of correcting people. Nice name though.

UserError012345 · 03/01/2022 05:54

Do you mean Agatha ?

bonetiredwithtwins · 03/01/2022 05:59

Why can't you spell it "properly"?

PumpkinPickle22 · 03/01/2022 05:59

Yes sorry Agatha

I think you'll end up with Aggy type nicknames rather than Tig.

SalsaLove · 03/01/2022 06:02

It sounds like you’re choosing a name based on liking the nn. Why not just call her Tig?

SunshineOnKeith · 03/01/2022 06:02

Really ugly spelling - way too close to git
It's correctly spelled Agatha

Tig isn't a natural shortening - I assume the misspelling is an attempt to try and get the nickname you want?
It doesn't work and kids at school are more likely to naturally shorted to Aga or Gita

Tig is short for Antigone

I wouldn't force the shortening. It doesn't really work.
Agatha is nice but will get shortened to something like Ag

PumpkinPickle22 · 03/01/2022 06:20

Ok thanks for your opinions

Luredbyapomegranate · 03/01/2022 11:02

Presume you mean Agatha?

If so then I like it, although suspect it’s a bit marmite. Aggie or Thea will be natural shortenings, but you could try and impose Tig - or there was a Jilly Cooper character Agatha nn Tag/gie

It doesn’t need a weird spelling

Marcipex · 03/01/2022 11:06

I think Tig is cute but it doesn’t arise from Agatha or Agitha.
Antigone is a brilliant idea. Please use it.

DramaAlpaca · 03/01/2022 11:07

If you want Tig, the usual long form is Antigone - an-TIG-oh-nee.

scottishnames · 03/01/2022 19:04

I like Agatha. I like Aglaia (Agh-LIE-ah) even more www.theoi.com/Ouranios/KharisAglaia.html

Why are people on Mumsnet so hung up on nicknames? I've never, ever been called by anything other than my full name, even by my DH and my dearest friends, except by my sister, and that's a private pet name used only by both of us. It's really not compulsory to have a nickname...

Tig/Tiggy as a nickname just reminds me of royal nanny Alexandra Legge-Bourke - but - ye gods! - there have been so many vicious and nasty things said about her. I have absolutely no idea whether any of them is true, but the whole atmosphere of royal rumour-mongering, for and against, dating from that era is deeply, deeply unsavoury. And probably very much exaggrated to please the press. Ugh. But I still would not use 'Tig' as any kind of name.

Continuing the royal theme, was 'The Tig' not used by Megahan Markle, before she met Prince Harry, as the title of her lifestyle blog? Named after a wine she liked, allegedly. Am not being judgemental - there's nothing wrong with writing a blog. thetigarchives.tumblr.com/

But if you are wanting to use a nickname, perhaps best to research earlier uses???

SummaLuvin · 03/01/2022 19:10

I immediately think of Miss Trunchbull from Matilda, not the most positive association.

I also don't like the way it sounds, the 'Agg' sound just isn't nice to me.

However, these things are very personal to me and if you love the name don't let it put you off.

PumpkinPickle22 · 03/01/2022 19:14

After reading these I will never be using Agatha or Tig

What about Tabitha? I can see that becoming Tig if you can steer away from Tabby. Wanted that name for one of mine but was vetoed

Skeumorph · 03/01/2022 20:02

@PumpkinPickle22

After reading these I will never be using Agatha or Tig
Ah OP that's what it's here for! Strong opinions that no one else will give you :)

I love Agatha. Aggy is great too.

No reason at all why you can't call her Tig either?

PumpkinPickle22 · 03/01/2022 21:34

I appreciate honest opinions - so def thank you

Hopitihop · 03/01/2022 21:37

Agatha, Tig (is it a name?), Aggy... etc. are not the best names you could choose unless you have a valid, family, heritage etc. reasons and you have to!

There so nice names out there to choose from, good luck x

When I was pg with DD1, I had a very vivid dream that we decided to call her Agatha. As soon as she was born (in the dream), the midwife took her away and, as I wanted to bf, I went looking for her. I found her in the filing room. I was searching under A for Agatha, obviously, but I eventually found her - sitting up looking absolutely furious at me - under B for Baby.

DD’s name is not Agatha.
