Baby girl name Kendall?

If I name my baby girl Kendall, do you think everyone is just going to think I love the Kardashian's?

I honestly have never seen the show but really like the name Kendall. My Grandads name was Kenneth shortened to Ken, and I think it was be a subtle tribute to him to have a name that is also shorted to Kenny or Ken.

Our first daughters name is Dakota which has an American feel to it, so I think Kendall could go quite nicely with Dakota too.

What do you think?

I don't like kendall

However other Ken names I do like and are still unusual
Kenzie
Jenna
Kennette
Kennedy.

GreenClock · 02/01/2022 13:52

I like it. And it goes well with your older daughter’s name.

I don’t think of Kendall Kardashian because I’ve never watched the show (although of course I’ve heard of it). The wonderful TV show Succession is more of a link for me, although that particular Kendall is male.

I’ve liked the name since I first heard it in the 1980s (character in Dallas!)

Terfydactyl · 02/01/2022 13:52

Kenna, bloody autocucumber

Dottyteapot · 02/01/2022 13:53

I thought of the Kardashian’s and I’ve never watched them/read an article about them- I literally just know the name.

My second thought was mint cake.

I would go for something like Kendra (still American but much a much nicer name)

AfterEightMintyCedric · 02/01/2022 13:56

I thought of Kendall in Succession who is a 40yo bloke Confused but I'm not a Kardashian fan!

That said I don't dislike it as a name and agree that it goes well with Dakota.

gogohm · 02/01/2022 13:58

Sorry I just think mint cakeGrin

I have an American friend whose dd is Kendall and is an adult (so not a Kardashian tribute) thought it was a weird thing to call a girl

DramaAlpaca · 02/01/2022 14:24

I'd privately wonder if she was conceived in Kendal...

Joking aside, while I can't say I like it, it does go well with Dakota.

SeanChailleach · 02/01/2022 15:03

Yeah but if it's a boy Douglas goes well with Dakota.
Piper would be another good one for a girl.
I thought Cessna too but maybe not as a name for a human...

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 02/01/2022 15:05

I have a (female) relative named Kendal (with one "l") who was named after the town in the lake district. I would never has thought of the Kardashians!

timoteigirl · 02/01/2022 15:32

I don't know of Kardashians, so reading the topic title my immediate thought was why a double L? Because I thought it was a location name like Chelsea, Devon, Harlow.... so I thought Kendal mint cake, and the location in Lake District.

Yebbie · 02/01/2022 15:34

I love the Kardashians (Blush) well not the people as much but the show is just trash tv gold. I really dislike the name Kendall though, it's got hugely associated with the Kardashian/Jenner clan and all I can ever hear is Ken doll 😂

IVflytrap · 02/01/2022 15:36

Whenever I hear Kendall Jenner's name, it does male me think "Ken doll", as in Barbie's boyfriend. But that's probably just me making odd associations.

Ultimately if you love Kendall. go for it. It does go with your eldest's name (not that sibling names necessarily need to go). I would probably assume you are a Kardashians fan, but only in passing, it wouldn't be something I'd judge you for.

If you do want some other suggestions, a previous poster mentioned Kenzie, which made me think of Mackenzie, a Scottish surname that's often used as a first name for girls in the US. I think it's got wiite a nice sound to it, and has the Ken connection.

Luredbyapomegranate · 02/01/2022 15:36

Probably.

It’s OK, it does sound more like a boys name to me, but have heard worse.

IVflytrap · 02/01/2022 15:36

*quite

ChickenGotLegs · 02/01/2022 15:38

I knew one about 35 years ago, not a name I've heard in a long time.
By the time your daughter is an adult nobody will remember the Kardashians anyway 😆

Aquamarine1029 · 02/01/2022 15:40

If you love it, you should use it. Who cares what anyone thinks? It's a lovely name.

WorstXmasEver · 02/01/2022 15:41

Yes either you're obsessed with Kardashians or Kendal mintcake.

lottiegarbanzo · 02/01/2022 15:42

Looks wrong because the Lake District town is Kendal.

DeclareThePenniesOnYourEyes · 02/01/2022 15:46

It’s my not my style at all but even so I don’t think it sounds very feminine. It’s also one of the names of a main (male) character on Succession, so I think that a-lot of people will immediately think of that now.

That said a relation of mine has just used it for a baby girl with a hyphen. The second name is more classically feminine (think “Lily” or “Jane”… I don’t want to say exactly what as it’s pretty outing!) and maybe that saves it to a certain extent.

VirginSparklewell · 02/01/2022 15:47

Makes me think of Kenneth Kendall, the newsreader. I’m no help.

ColdShouldersWarmTummy · 02/01/2022 15:48

Kendra as suggested by pp is lovely. Also Kelda.

mum2jakie · 02/01/2022 15:48

I know of adults called Kendal, Kenzie and Kendra, so there are plenty of nice ways to honour your relative.

RickyZooom · 02/01/2022 15:55

I actually really like Kendall and think it goes well with Dakota.
Yes there’s the Kardashian connection but unless you’re a big fan nobody would assume you’re naming her after one of them.

thetinsoldier · 02/01/2022 16:04

I liked it! It's very American to me, so goes well with Dakota.

RockinHorseShit · 02/01/2022 16:07

I love it & thought of the place, not the Kardashian's... though that sort of crap doesn't interest me at all. I'm pretty sure by the time the DD is of an age to worry about it, they'll be resigned to tacky TV/media history anyway
