Is Wilbur too similar to Winston?

We already have a little boy called Winston, our second doesn't have a name beginning with W and I am now pregnant with my third (not finding out the gender) and I love Wilbur for a boy.

I just don't know if Winston and Wilbur are too similar and it would get confusing? Plus I don't want people thinking we are trying to be some sort of Kardashian household where all our boys have to have names starting with W!!

I think they are different enough, but still a bit too alike for brothers.

WhatScratch · 21/12/2021 16:17

They’re both nice names but for brothers? A bit too cartoon-twins, matchy.

Mumofgirls2017 · 21/12/2021 17:45

Too close for me, sorry. But know some sibling with names this similar.

spotcheck · 21/12/2021 17:47

Too close

And Wilbur is, and always will be a pigs name

Tal45 · 21/12/2021 17:51

Too similar IMO.

Thirtytimesround · 21/12/2021 17:55

Too similar.

Plus it’s so annoying later with post when banks etc just write to “Mr W. Graveyravey.”

Give him his own name that isn’t merely an echo of his brother’s.

toastofthetown · 21/12/2021 17:58

In general I’d try to avoid matching initials for two siblings all things being equal, but if that’s the name you like I don’t think they’re too similar. Especially as there’s a non-W sibling. Maybe try shouting them across your house to see if you can hear the difference.

feliciabirthgiver · 21/12/2021 18:29

How about Willoughby if you are keen on another W?

TuftyMarmoset · 21/12/2021 18:33

Definitely too close. As a rule I think it's good to avoid the same first syllable.

Justkeepon · 21/12/2021 18:34

I'd worry they would both be called Willy for short

delshell · 21/12/2021 20:33

@spotcheck

Too close

And Wilbur is, and always will be a pigs name

I'm afraid Wilbur the pig is what immediately came to my mind too!
Luredbyapomegranate · 21/12/2021 21:56

They are a bit, sorry - it’s the Wi not just W start

Winston and Walter? That’s on the OK side of similar

Otherwise Ernest, Arnold, Edgar, Edmund spring to mind, along with the ever popular Alfred and Arthur. Or Robert nn Robin?

wishing3 · 21/12/2021 22:58

Huh-I don’t think they’re too similar.

peaceinourtime · 25/12/2021 11:34

Go for it, They're both nice names.
