What name trends do you think are on the not too distant horizon?

I know nature, vintage and cutesy names are still popular on here. I think that virtue names will have a big upswing soon. Nature names will probably stay a while longer. Hipsters are probably already looking at Barbara, Pamela and Michael. Maybe even David!

I wonder if plain, very traditional full names will appear soon for girls? A reaction to the cutesy or a small leap from vintage. E.g. Jane, Elizabeth, Victoria, maybe Mary. Probably not Sarah yet due to the huge surge in the 80s and 90s.

I'm not sure about boys.

Michael, David, Elizabeth have never gone away, they are pretty timeless and top 100 names - and even Sarah and Victoria are just outside the top 100.

Jane and Mary are super classic and will always be used in small numbers to honour relatives or for traditional reasons - other names in this category might be Margaret, Ann, Phillip, Richard etc. But they should have a bigger resurgence in the next few years imo when people start to get fed up of the current trends for nicknames, surnames and short "o" and "a" ending names and want something more substantial/serious sounding.

Barbara and Pamela are a different kettle of fish - more mid century names that only the brave/hipsters are using at the moment and I think it will take another 30 years for the rest of us to catch up (similar names style names might be Carol, Shirley, Janet, Roger, Alan, Brian etc). Everybody will keep finding and using the more popular 100 year old names - Ada, Mabel, Nancy, Alfred, Stanley, Albert etc for a while longer first.

I reckon it will be names like Karen, Sharon, Jason et al.
All the popular ones that were unthinkable a while back.

Some names I think will rise in popularity
Suzannah
Sylvia
Vivienne
Joy
Jean
Astrid

I don't think Barbara, Karen etc will make a comeback for a while yet. They are too 'comical' in their datedness. Overly vowely names that all sound similar (Isla, Mia, Lila, Lyra, Lola, Evie, Ava) will all start to fall as more substantial names rise.

Boys names it's harder to predict. We will move away from the cutesy names and towards stronger names. I think surnames as names will continue to rise as people continue to diversify their name choices. People are normally less brave with boys names but that's changing now.
I think Xander is set to take off and David and Stephen will start featuring more.

Harsher names in general, both genders at the moment are quite 'soft' sounding, lots of vowels, names ending 'ie/y' or 'ia' or 'a' - Gabriel, Leo, Evie, Aurora... I think more abrupt names will be a nice change of pace - Hector, Bridget, Claude...

Names tend to be cyclical, so more 'old people' names will become trendy, in 20 years we will be seeing lots of little Sheilas, Pams, and Alans!

Whatever grandad and grandma names are for this generation of parents.
More masculine sounding names for boys and possibly more masculine/neutral sounding names for girls. A move away from anything feminine. So more Toni, Robyn, Austen, Eden, Taylor type names. Surnames as first names will continue to rise.
Unusual/unique names as parents don't want their child to have the same name as anyone else.
Animal names such as Raven and Bear.
Lastly anything from new films/TV shows which we are unable to predict as they aren't out there yet.

A new set of vintage names come every generation. Last generation (gen z which was from 1997-2012) names like Emma, Anna, Clara, Grace, Lucy and Ruby came back for girls whilst names like George, William, Harry, Henry, Louis and Samuel came back for boys. Now (from 2013-2025) the top names will likely be names like Dorothy, Edna, Evelyn, Hazel, Audrey and Ida for girls and Edward, Richard, Arthur, Albert, Alfred and Theodore for boys. This is according to the 100 year rule which comes from parents naming their children after their great-grandparents.

Otherwise, here are some of the names I think will continue to ruse in the 20s:
Hope
Autumn
Indie
Nova
Primrose
Barnaby
Otis
Evan
Remy
Reginald

Names like Lara, Lyra, Lana, Alyssa, Alaia, Alana will go up and down as they all blend into one and will go out of fashion one by one. Clearly Dua and Mabel are getting more popular due to the singers (and Mabel being apart of the 100 years trend).

Clearly nature names (especially seasonal and monthly names) are staying in fashion. Names that are seen as a bit ‘quirky’ but not ‘too out there’ will also sneak their way in to the top 200 like Indie and Nova. They both fit a certain niche I can’t quite describe. Same for Otis and Barnaby.

Btw I mean the children’s great grandparents not the parent’s.
