I think they'd be pronounced differently. Also, how are you pronouncing the "J"?

I'd go for Jana (pronounced Yana, with a long "A")

Janna would be pronounced with a short "A", according to the rules of English grammar (although appreciate you may not be English mother tongue).

LivingDeadGirlUK · 13/12/2021 15:01

I really wanted the name Jaina for a girl, its from a computer game though and there was a small genocide incident that my partner wasn't too happy about. Probably for the best we had a boy tbh.

FleetwoodRaincoat · 13/12/2021 15:56

I would think Jana is pronounced Yarna and Janna is pronounced Janna.

Much prefer Jana.

KirstenBlest · 13/12/2021 16:28

I'd think that Jana was Yannah and Janna as Jannah

PlainJane1000 · 13/12/2021 18:36

I know a Jana whose name is pronounced Yannah, I really like it. The double N would confuse me.

creamcakescreamcakes · 13/12/2021 18:47

I love the name Janna (pronounced with a short a)

Classica · 13/12/2021 20:02

Are you pronouncing them with a Y or J?

I know a Janna and she pronounces the J and the first a is elongated.

I think pronunciation with J.

I do know a Jana who pronounced it Jaina, but she is American.

It would be YAR-nuh really wouldn’t it? I guess you could say JAR-nuh but it’s a bit odd and it would get mispronounced a lot,

Janna would be Jan-nuh, very similar to Jenna, and a bit dull.

HesBoughtAFuckingHat · 14/12/2021 00:05

Do you live in Plymouth?

Enough4me · 14/12/2021 00:13

I'm in the South West and would avoid names that sound like Janner 🤣

DukkaTheHallsWithBoughsOfHolly · 14/12/2021 08:41

Isn’t Janner a term for the locals of Plymouth? And not in a good way…

scottishnames · 14/12/2021 17:45

OP Not up to me, of course, but have you considered just Jane?
Simple, elegant, classy, and with world-class namesakes, such as Jane Austen. But also v.v. glamorous and sassy Jane Fonda etc.

I'd rather be called a 'real' old name than some modern less authentic versions.

KirstenBlest · 14/12/2021 17:57

Janna sounds like Janet said by someone who doesn't sound their Ts.

Jane and Janet are both nicer IMO.

scottishnames · 14/12/2021 17:59

Jana - pronounced Yarh-nah -is of course a classic name in many non-English-speaking countries.
Janna less so, in so far as I know.

KirstenBlest · 14/12/2021 18:12

How on earth do you say Yarh-nah?

drpet49 · 14/12/2021 18:13

Neither, awful harsh sound name

Enough4me · 14/12/2021 20:55

Janine and Janina are prettier names.

Tal45 · 14/12/2021 21:01

A Janner is a chav from Plymouth, not a name I'd dream of using.

InTheLabyrinth · 14/12/2021 21:11

How would you pronounce the name? Because I'd say Jana with a long first A, and Janna with both A's short.

WakeUpLockie · 15/12/2021 18:04

What they said re. pronunciation. I MUCH prefer Janna but sadly makes me think of Duggar, which at the moment is an especially terrible association.
