Thoughts on Aphra for a girl?

I like it. It feels very fresh.

beatrice82 · 19/11/2021 21:08

Sounds like Alpha. No from me, sorry.

HermioneWeasley · 19/11/2021 21:09

Fabulous. Named for an inspirational role model

Isabellabasil · 19/11/2021 21:10

I absolutely love it and it was on my list but DH vetoed

CaptSkippy · 19/11/2021 21:12

Aphra? As in Aphra Ben? She was a famous playwright in her time. I love it. Inspirational name.

CaptSkippy · 19/11/2021 21:13

Oops. I mispelled the name. It's Aphra Behn.

bakingdemon · 19/11/2021 21:13

Love it. I know an Aphra who's lovely.

Camembear · 19/11/2021 21:15

I’ve never heard of that name! It’s great.

rugbychick1 · 19/11/2021 21:16

So long as you're not in Australia you'll be fine. APHRA is the regulatory body for health professionals

TempsPerdu · 19/11/2021 21:18

Really nice. Strong, great namesake, pleasant sound and would make a refreshing change from some of the usual suspects.

Irishfarmer · 19/11/2021 21:18

How do you say it? App Ra? Couldn't find the pronunciation just meaning on google

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 19/11/2021 21:19

As long as you are a fan of Aphra Behn and happy for people to ask/comment on that (as that's likely what most people will assume as it's an uncommon name). I think it's quite pretty and fits a nice niche - unusual yet still "fits in" style wise with all the "ah" ending 2 syllable names popular for her peers at the moment (Ava, Ayla, Ada, Lyra, Isla, Ella etc).

I know a gorgeous little Aphra. Love it.

WholeClassKeptIn · 19/11/2021 21:24

Sounds like alpha or aphid to me.

But I often don't like names like this at first and then they grow on me!

littleburn · 19/11/2021 21:27

My first thought was Aphra Benn too. It's a lovely name.

EileenGC · 19/11/2021 21:28

I like it, it reminds me of Alpha which is the name of an amazing young girl I know.

Leeloo1233 · 19/11/2021 22:08

I know someone who named.their kid this and several people have missheard "afro" Confused

MrsBobDylan · 19/11/2021 22:09

It's a yes from me, it's bloody lovely!

AuntDympna · 19/11/2021 22:09

I love the spelling, it feels like a strong name.

SkankingMopoke · 19/11/2021 22:25

I like it! My dad had a lovely girlfriend with that name (about 30 years ago!), so only good connections for me.

DramaAlpaca · 19/11/2021 22:26

I don't like the look of it written down or the sound of it, so it's a big No from me.

HesperusWreck · 19/11/2021 22:31

I like it.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 19/11/2021 22:37

It the name of the girl in Dr sleep isnt it?

I love it, fresh and different, without being too different!

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 19/11/2021 22:39

Ah no, that was Abra, but Aphra is much nicer!
