Why are boy names so hard to pick!

Does anyone know any unique but nice boy names? (If that makes sense!🤣)
I was convinced I was having a girl and had plenty of beautiful names lined up. I've recently found out I'm having a boy and literally can't think of any names!
HELP!☺️🧡

@Chickenkatsu

Also,

Hector, Herman, Norman, Norbert, Gaylord, Algernon, Caedferal, Elon

Loads of good names there

Hector I get, but not sure we'll be seeing Norbert or Gaylord any time soon.

Miles and Jude are both nice OP. I also like Jesse, Casper & Hal.

People have a duty to Save the Dave. I have posted about this before. Everyone knows a Dave. Solidly reliable, great bloke. But not enough baby boys are being born to Davehood. Same for Steves.
I don’t want to think of a world with no Daves or Steves in it. I am, alas, too old to do my duty and have a baby called Dave or Steve, but you could be doing the world a huge favour by choosing either of those. Smile

Myles has now entered the top 100 and seems to have been steadily rising in popularity so could be even higher in a few years - so it will not be exactly that uncommon/"unique" anymore if that's what matters most to you (but obviously it doesn't matter if it's a name you really love!).

If you want names that are more uncommon now yet still very well known I'd check out the ONS popularity list between about 100 to 200 or so and then type your favourites into Darkergreener - you'd want to look for names either dropping in popularity or remaining relatively stable (some examples of these are names like John, Owen, Joel, Luke, Evan, Nathaniel, Nicholas etc).

BentCandle · 09/11/2021 04:00

Myles, Jude and Tate are great names.

Elspethelf · 09/11/2021 05:49

I have a nephew Sullivan, nn Sully and it’s so cute on him

Swearwolf · 09/11/2021 06:13

If I were having another now, I'd go for
Asher
Jonah
Tobias
Vincent

I disagree with some of those upthread who are saying names like Paul and Chris are unusual. Yes, they're unusual on a baby these days, but not overall, and the baby won't only ever be with people his own age forever. He would still be one of many Andrews someone knows. (And for what it's worth, I do know kids called Edward, David, Robert... they might be having a resurgence)

Driposaurus · 09/11/2021 06:25

There are quite a few Reggies, Ralph/Ralphies, Calebs, Judes, around in my childrens’ age groups (up to 6).

There are two Fletchers, which I think is a nice surname-as-first name.

(My kids names are in the perennial top 10 traditional style, so not what you’re looking for…)

Harrison as Harry.

Lawrence is underused.

Isaac (know a few aged 9-25)

I know a Ba lt ha za r (known as Za rz ar) (spaces to reduce googleable of this) born this year if you want (almost) unique.

Boys names are hard I think because there are fewer timeless classics than girls names, and they have more associations. But I agree on Davids needing a comeback (not an option for us because of surname)

Mine is a Dexter - he's 16 now and loves his name. He could have been Otis but that went to the dog!
I loved Tadhg (pronounced ''tige') but we thought he'd have to spend his life spelling it out.

FreeBritnee · 09/11/2021 06:47

I read the name Emmerson on an email yesterday and thought it was unusual.

WalkingOnSonshine · 09/11/2021 06:47

We have a Lachlan. If we have another DS, he’s likely to be Rohan or Conrad.

We also like Cillian, Caspar, Jude, Nathanial and Jago.

FreeBritnee · 09/11/2021 06:49

I also like Everett with the NN Ever.

darklamps · 09/11/2021 06:51

I have a Barnaby asleep known as Barney. Not v common but everyone knows the name. Also love Albert.

Iamnotthe1 · 09/11/2021 06:52

If you're giving a more unique name, it can be good to use one which can shorten to a more typical name as it gives the child options as they get older. Names like:

Finnian (Finn)
Tobin (Toby)
Roscoe (Ross)
Lucias (Luke)

PieMistee · 09/11/2021 06:56

The pedant in me has to point out that unique means one of a kind. You mean well known but not commonly used.
