Hindu name question

I really love the name Anya and while looking it up online I found that it had muslim origins - as a Hindu, can I still use it? How do other Hindus feel about the name Anya?

I haven't discussed this with any family or friends yet but I just want to know in general what comes to mind when you think of the name, before I make any decisions. Will I offend anyone, Hindu or Muslim if I use that name?

It's a popular european name.

The name you are thinking of is derived from Anaya (An-eye-a)

I'm from Northern Ireland and know a few people called Anya.

I know a Polish woman called Anya (as well as an anglo-Indian little girl). It's a lovely name.

I thought it was Russian myself - a diminutive of Anna. It sounds like it has quite a few origins.

I've met and know a few women from different countries call "Anya"

The religious or country origins of a name doesn't mean it isn't common in other countries. It also means the name is international so more people from around the world will be able to pronounce it.

Thanks guys, it's good to know it's so widespread. It would help make it easier for family members to accept x
