For a boy? What do you think of it?

My first thought was Sean Penn, my second was Penny.

SickAndTiredAgain · 23/10/2021 11:44

It sounds like a very American kind of name.

toastofthetown · 23/10/2021 12:02

I don't think a name being one letter different from penis in another language is deal breaker. Pippa means blowjob in several European languages and it's a common name here - and that's without needing to change a letter.

Cakepop9 · 23/10/2021 12:27

Well, Laura means penis in Hindi and millions of people speak that language yet people still use the name. I thought of Penn Badgley too so I think it’s a pretty cool name.

lemonlimetree · 23/10/2021 12:30

@Cakepop9 that's not really valid if you're living in a generally British area where you'll never meet anyone who'd know that. Me for example has never heard of that. Extending Penn to penis however, is a lot more likely in school!

timoteigirl · 23/10/2021 12:31

Yes if you have a connection to Pennsylvania. How does it sound with your surname?

Cbeebiesrehab · 23/10/2021 14:15

Made me think Badgley. Not that out there I don’t think. If a Penny is useable for a girl then why not Penn?

Ughmaybenot · 23/10/2021 14:25

I really don’t like it as a name. My first thought was of penn state and so would assume you had some sort of over involved history with that particular university… which if you’re English, or just not American I suppose, would be weird 🤷🏼‍♀️

JaninesEyePatch · 23/10/2021 14:34

My first thought is Penn Badgley - nice guy but seems to play psychotic characters so that might put me off.

Monsterpumpkins · 23/10/2021 15:00

But surely full name on bc?
Pencil Surname...

QueenDanu · 23/10/2021 15:22

Pendejo?

Ellmau · 23/10/2021 17:44

MY first thoughts are American - Quaker - Penn Station. But if those don't put you off it's not a bad name, I've definitely heard worse.

bippityboppitydo · 23/10/2021 17:47

Was on my list. I love it.

Fivebeanchilli · 23/10/2021 22:53

Wasn't it the name of Robert Browning and Elizabeth Barrett Browning's son?
I don't hate it (and I really can't imagine it being hugely teaseworthy because it starts with the same 3 letters as penis, along with Penny, Penelope, pen, pencil and all manner of other words which don't get associated with that) but it just doesn't seem that nice to me. It's a bit of a nothing name...

HonorHiding · 23/10/2021 23:21

I know a schoolboy Penn - he’s 16 and hasn’t been teased about his name. I wasn’t sure about the name at first, but he’s a lovely lad and it has grown on me over the years.

reallyalurker · 24/10/2021 10:16

I think it's usable - makes me think of William Penn and the Pennington books by KM Peyton. That character was Patrick Pennington but known as Penn.

DaisyDozyDee · 24/10/2021 10:26

My first thought about Penn is Wolverhampton. If you have any more, you could call them Bilston and Wednesfield.

smartiecake · 24/10/2021 10:28

Not if you live in the Midlands. Penn is an area in Wolverhampton

YippieKayakOtherBuckets · 24/10/2021 13:42

It is a very naice village in Bucks - Mary Berry used to live there.
