Is anyone else so confused by this name jumping 10 places? I have not heard of one since the royals used it and I definitely thought it was on a downward slope.

I can think of a couple in my neighbourhood who were born a year or two before Royal Archie. I had only ever met one before.

It is my friends first choice for baby due in December no doubt she may change her mind now

It was everywhere in the mid nineties. Every other boy that wasn't Jack, was Archie apart from mine who had another old fashioned but now quite common first name.

SueyF · 18/10/2021 19:45

Yes to me Archie is still an old fashioned name but I saw others calling it trendy

It fits current boys name trends - both soft sounding, and a diminutive of classic/old-fashioned name (think Freddie, Albie...) and a high profile baby often causes a surge, so I'm not surprsied. However, I personally find it rather insipid.

Archie has been sitting between 2500-3000 babies born per year since about 2009. It's risen in popularity, but it's not a hugely dramatic shift compared to it's baseline. It's trendy in that it fits in with the most common boys name trend of an -ie or -y nickname as a first name. Albie/Harry/Freddie/Tommy/Charlie/Ronnie/Alfie.

@SummaLuvin I do not actually think there is anything wrong with the name just shocked to hear it rising. I work in a school and have not had an Archie for 6 years now

You need to add the Archibalds in too, as they're likely to be known as Archie.

Some areas are 20 years behind/or ahead of the times. By the time a name hits the mass market charts, it’s already been and gone in other areas and is seen as dated.

Aww we were going to use Archie for our second but she popped out a girl, she's only 11 months so it's still popular in my opinion x
