Jasper?

Hello! So I've found out I'm having a baby boy and we are really stuck on names

We initially liked Rupert but have since gone off it and I don't think it goes with our surname. However have come across the name Jasper and I love it?

I've heard mixed things though, some people saying it is a joke name and others saying it is too posh. My first son is Arthur and I think the names go well together, but honestly what are your thoughts on the name Jasper?

I love Jasper. I don't get the Bristol uni thing and I work in a uni hospital

FreeBritnee · 06/10/2021 13:23

Like it!

Panicmode1 · 06/10/2021 13:24

My 4th was going to be Jasper but he just didn't look like one so we ended up with something different. But I think it's a great name.

Great name

Fupoffyagrasshole · 06/10/2021 13:26

Definitely becoming a very popular name at the moment I’ve heard it quite a bit lately - 2 at the nursery my child is attending and a friend recently named her new baby Jasper

I absolutely love the name Jasper, it's fabulous.

I do think of Jasper carrot but that's not a bad thing, I still love the name.

Heruka · 06/10/2021 13:47

I find it posh I’m afraid, same with Rupert. Like if you imagine a grown up introducing themselves, I can only imagine it from a posh person. That said I know a little Jasper who is very cute and I’m sure folk grow into names, or names evolve. Love Arthur though. What do you think of Stanley? One of my faves.

TatianaBis · 06/10/2021 14:02

Jasper Carrott is most definitely not posh - but so what if it is?

Heruka · 06/10/2021 14:54

True, a bit posh-ist of me, isn’t it??! Op asked for honest answers but yes shows my class prejudice.

loafcake · 06/10/2021 14:59

I really like the name Jasper, and then kept looking around for boy names and found I really like the name Emmett.

But unfortunately, bloody Twilight has ruined them for me 😂

It does suit with the name of your other boy though! Go for it if you love it 😊

Bimblybomeyelash · 06/10/2021 15:05

Jasper and Rupert are both cute. Not as posh as they once were. I do think they are a touch dog namey though. But probably because people like the names, but aren’t brave enough to use them on a child so use them in a dog instead!

Other options:

Felix
Jonty
Jago
Hugh
Ralph
Toby
Owen
Edmund

I have a new baby Jasper. It's had a positive reception from the general public he's been in contact with 😊

TrollsAreSaddos · 06/10/2021 15:34

It's a lovely name.

What did you end up with out of curiosity?? :)

I love Jasper and it was a contender 24 years ago when I had dd.

Dauphinois · 06/10/2021 17:17

My Jasper is nearly 15 now. Great name, no regrets.

IVflytrap · 06/10/2021 20:31

I really like Jasper. I've seen all sorts about it on here, including that it's posh, or a dog's name (to be fair there was a time when pretty much every name mentioned on this board was declared a dog's name Grin). If you like it, go for it. It's a name that suits both a boy and a man, and is formal enough without being too formal.

Jasper is a local word for a wasp in the south west (I assumed that's where the Bristol Uni comment stems from, as Bristol is in the south west, but I could be wrong). I wouldn't let something like that put you off.... One of my favourite names allegedly means something rude in another part of the UK. (It's also been called a dog's name, and "wet". I still plan to use it if I ever get the chance.)
