Sienna / Siena

Due baby girl any day now 😬

Have always liked the name Sienna (an old colleague named her baby this about 8 years ago,) and I'd thought about it again recently when thinking of name ideas - particularly having watched Bridgerton on Netflix!

I generally like classic / older names, which I wouldn't really class this as - but DH has now completely fallen in love with it, (though prefers the 'Siena' spelling, after the Italian city), and I like that it was obviously in use in regency times, so not a new fad.

Three questions really -

  1. Noted Princess Beatrice's new baby is now Sienna Elizabeth... does this make it a bit cringey to use the same name within a week or two? (Ours wouldn't be Elizabeth, for the record!)
  1. Do you think it will take off now in popularity and date quickly? It was obviously in use in regency times, and was #50 in popularity in the baby name records for here for last year.
  1. Should we use Sienna for ease, or Siena, which is a bit more authentic and less Princess Beatrice / Sienna Miller / Toyota!

Other options we'd considered for a baby girl are Mia and Eva.

I always think of it as a name from the mid/late 1990s

'Bad Heir Day' by Wendy Holden published 2000, had twins, Savannah and Sienna - the perfect offspring of the perfect on-trend mother.

I like it. Yes, it's get some Bea comments now, but I think that'll fade over time - no-one will even notice they're the same age after a few months

Sienna is a lovely name, and no, I dont think anyone will think of princess Beatrice. Yes it might now become a bit more popular, but so be it.
I’d spell it Sienna as otherwise as everyone else said it will get misspelt, but it’s up to you really.
Gorgeous name and if it goes with your surname then go for it.
To me it’s the type of name that has to go with surname. For example I have a very common Irish surname and Sienna would just sound funny with it even though it’s always been on my list!

Out of the four baby Siennas I know of born in the last couple of years, all were spelt Sienna, so I would go with that spelling as it seems to be the most widely known, and will avoid your child having to spell her name so much when she's older.

I just found this as I was looking for the colour Siena and decided to have a look at birth records. Also, what did you decide?! There was over 500 Siena's born between 1837 and 2005! Hope all is well OP x

I really like Sienna! In terms of spelling I'm inclined to go with the most presumed spelling, for me that's Sienna.

It's lovely. Wouldn't give Princess Beatrice a second thought.....I didn't even know she'd had a girl, let alone what she called the baby.

Definitely use the correct spelling or people will forever be spelling it incorrectly.....not worth it for the sake of being a bit different.
