Please could you rank them! Surname is 3 syllables.

They’re pretty similar in terms of popularity and style, so hard to have a preference.

I probably prefer Jacob as I like Jake more than Jack or Josh.

NannyR · 02/10/2021 18:19

I like Joshua best, then Jacob and Jack but I think that Jacob might work better with a three syllable surmame.

happytoday73 · 02/10/2021 18:47

Jacob

But why not wait to see which one suits baby best

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 02/10/2021 19:33
  1. Jack - my favourite of the 3, while it's very popular (so I personally prefer underused John, nn Jack) it's simple, classic, generally nickname free and also works well with a longer surname.
  1. Jacob - nice enough (don't love, don't hate).

3.Joshua - nothing wrong with it, just not especially my taste - (possibly feels a touch 90's/early 2000's when it seemed more popular.)

ImNotWhoYouThinkIam · 02/10/2021 19:39
  1. Joshua (but I have one so I'm biased)

Not sure between the other 2. I think I marginally prefer Jack. No Jake. No idea Grin

Bananarama21 · 02/10/2021 19:41

Josh but I'm biased love the long version and short version I also have a Joseph who gets Joe.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 02/10/2021 19:46

Jack and Jacob are tied.

Joshua I'm less fond of. I used to live next door to one and got tired of hearing his parents calling 'Joshuuuaaaaaaaa'

ofwarren · 02/10/2021 19:47

I have a Jack so I'm biased so my order is Jack, Jacob, Joshua.

Yes, same here.
ZoyaTheDestroyer · 02/10/2021 20:35
  1. Jacob (although it was very popular in the early 2010s so there are a lot of Jacobs aged around 12)
  2. Joshua (ditto but for the turn of the century, lots of twentysomethings)
  1. Then Jack (as above but for the period 1997-2017. We are all going to spend the rest of our lives meeting a lot of men called Jack).
Happenchance · 02/10/2021 20:40

Jack, Jacob then Joshua. I actually prefer the name Joshua but it has negative connotations for me.

CoalCraft · 02/10/2021 20:51

Joshua is lovely but I'm afraid the inevitable Josh isn't.

Jacob and Jack are both fine, maybe I slightly prefer Jacob.

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 02/10/2021 20:53

I like them all and one of them is DS name. They are all popular.

RavenclawsRoar · 02/10/2021 20:55

I like Jacob best, then Jack and Joshua the least (mainly because I went to school with many a Josh and didn't really like any of them).

user1493494961 · 03/10/2021 22:27

Jacob then Joshua. Jack is fine but there are a lot of them about.

Blubells · 04/10/2021 08:01

I find all three very similar and very popular. If I had to choose, probably Jacob, but I dislike Jake

TumtumTree · 04/10/2021 08:04

Joshua, then Jacob, then Jack.

Immaculatemisconception · 04/10/2021 08:07

I like Jack best. ❤️

ILoveShula · 04/10/2021 08:30

I prefer John to Jack.
The names are all ok but I would bear in mind that Jacob will be Jake Surname and Joshua will be Josh Surname.

I'd probably put them in the order of 1. Jack, 2, Jacob and 3 Joshua.
I'm not keen on Josh/Joshua. Jack is favourite because it can't be shortened.

borntobequiet · 04/10/2021 08:34

You have the option of abbreviating Jacob and Joshua. Jack is really a nickname for John.

Flamingosnbears · 04/10/2021 08:36

Jack is #1 out of your 3 how about Jonas?...

Athrawes · 04/10/2021 09:51

Interchangable boys names in the classroom. Could you not find something else do that you don't get upset when his teacher mistakes him for one of 6 other J named boys.

Blubells · 04/10/2021 11:19

All three are very common and he'll likely have to add his surname. Is his surname quite unusual?

GiveIrelandBackToTheIrish · 04/10/2021 20:13

Jack is the best by miles

KnightError · 04/10/2021 20:19

None of them would scare the horses, but they're a bit interchangeable. I couldn't rank them for that reason.

I chose names for my DC which wouldn't mean they had to spell them out but which were uncommon enough for them not to be one of more than one in a school class. More importantly, I loved the names.
