Otis, Frank or Ziggy baby coming in 3 days

Hi all, I posted on here a week ago about the names Rudy and Sidney, we were all set for Rudy, but long story short, DH has totally gone off Rudy Confused! I could tell he wasn't totally onboard with it.

Anyway he's suggested Otis ( I think this has come after watching sex education on Netflix) frank and ziggy which were names we originally had in the hat.

Baby coming in 3 days and I'm losing the will to live with coming up with a suitable boys name.

Any comments and help appreciated thanx X

Ziggy is trying too hard.
Otis possibly?

SammyScrounge · 02/10/2021 18:21

Frank
His friends might call him Frankie which is so cute on a little boy.

Ughmaybenot · 02/10/2021 18:23

Frank is a great name, I love it, and I’m very fond of Otis too, it would be my second choice from your name options.
Ziggy is a bit naff, and River I like, but I feel like it might be a bit tricky to ‘carry off’ if that makes sense?

@Marguerite2000

I actually like Ziggy. One of Bob Marley's sons is called Ziggy, and you can't get much cooler than having Bob and Rita Marley as your parents. My preference is Otis, Ziggy and Rudy, in that order.
True, but I think the chance of the OP and her OH being Rita and Bob Marley is infinitesimal. RIP Bob. No offence OP, I am sure you are cool, but not quite as cool as Bob and Rita........
Pemba · 02/10/2021 18:51

OP, you obviously have a preference for the short and quirky as far as names go. Trouble is, a lot of those names are a bit marmite.

Have you considered a longer more well known name which you can give a quirky nickname for? If he gets older and doesn't like the quirky nickname he can then exchange for a different shortening, or use the full name. For example name him Alexander, to be known as Xander, when he is older he could change to Alex or the full Alexander, if he wishes. That's just an example.

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 02/10/2021 18:58

I like them all.

I like Otis best, and think it is the least marmitey and most all-purpose (will work on any personality, age, profession, hairstyle etc).

Ziggy is the most out-there - I like it, but it might be hard on a wallflower!

Pennylane87 · 02/10/2021 19:10

I don't think anyone will ever be as cool as Bob !!

Frank.

Ziggy is awful. Sorry.

lifecoachingandotherbollocks · 02/10/2021 19:18

Not Ziggy! Love Frank, is ok

Pennylane87 · 02/10/2021 21:07

Hi, just to clarify... Ziggy is off the list Wink

Final two are Otis or Rudy

Otis River
Rudy Jack

DH really not that keen on Rudy so it's looking most likely Otis Grin

Thanks for all your comments x

Oooh I know a 3 year old and just turned 1 year old Ziggy. Maybe it's going to be popular. Although they are on two different continents so not that popular yet!

Cotswoldmama · 02/10/2021 21:17

I love Otis but I think it might become popular because of the Netflix show Sex education.

Derrymum123 · 02/10/2021 21:17

Love Ziggy, reminds me of Ziggy Marley. Add a more mainstream middle name, then if he wants to change it, he can be known by that one.

Aspiringmatriarch · 02/10/2021 21:18

Otis.

Pennylane87 · 02/10/2021 21:42

This is my main concern with Otis !!

@poodlepip

Otis is cute and popular for a reason. My boy due in a few days too and would be a contender if wasn't a close friends baby.

Ziggy is a cool middle name! OZ good initials

Good luck for the birth !

Thank you, you too ! X

I like Otis. I agree with a pp that it is getting popular. Lovely name though.
Frank I just don't like and Ziggy reminds me of that big brother contestant.

Ha ha yeh I thought of the big brother contestant too !

I think you're right, it does seem to be on the rise. The way I look at that though is they are popular because they are well liked, so surely that's a good thing ? In the past ive never picked anything top 100, but starting to wonder if popular is so bad after all if you really love a name ? My DD1 is 15 now and when I named her she had a pretty unusual name, out of the top 100 and it's now top ten ! Same with DD2 in the 200s and now in the top 50 of close to I believe !

Name trends are so interesting 🤓

@Pennylane87, I agree about them being popular for a reason. I love Olivia. My niece is Olivia and I only ever taught one, but its popularity seems to put people off. Also Joshua - it's very popular for 25 to 30 year olds but I love it.

Notashandyta · 03/10/2021 12:45

Frank

Rattysparklebum · 03/10/2021 15:54

I know a little girl named Ziggy but I think parents were going for something gender neutral.

bloominglovelyorange · 03/10/2021 19:03

Ziggy is pretty stupid. If I was called a name like that I'd assume my parents were a bit disappointed with my office job.
Otis is lovely. Not actually met one though know it's increased in popularity but like you say who cares!!
What about Ellis ? Tristan?

Pennylane87 · 03/10/2021 21:13

Ziggy was a wildcard choice and has been totally cast off the list Grin so please don't worry, I won't be naming my boy Ziggy !

I love Otis, I think that's what we have settled on Smile Its the best of the bunch for sure !

He's arriving tomorrow, so I'll update as to what we decide on !

It's funny isn't it, although my DD1 has a top 10 name, I've only ever met one more !
