Hi lovely Mumsnetters,
I am expecting DD2 in a few months and I have narrowed down all the names I love.

Can you help me by telling me which ones are your favourite/least favourite?
DD1 is Lucy.
Smile

Sylvia
Francesca
Jemima
Simone (I’m French)
Sabine
Olivia
Hazel
Eliza

I want a name that’s a bit more out there than Lucy and that I love just as much.

Eliza

Jemima
Frances would sound nice with Lucy, although it’s probably too weird if you are from France yourself. You could always use Frankie for a Francesca.

ODFOx · 27/09/2021 22:15

As you are French, it was kind for you to choose the Anglicised spelling of Lucy. Either Sylvie or Elise would be a gorgeous match and a nod to your heritage.

Names which are 'old fashioned ' in France may not be in the UK and vice versa. Tricky! 😀

Janedamaz · 27/09/2021 22:37

So tricky @ODFOx and so interesting as well!

Juliette is very old fashioned in France but Juliet not so much here. Sabine is old fashioned in France, Felicity VERY old fashioned but lovely here etc

It’s a logistical nightmare!

I like your idea of leaning more towards my heritage this time!

@RandomWordGenerator no Hazel doesn’t work in French but it is easily pronounceable. I find bilingual names I like either already in use in my family (Eloise, Margot), too match y with Lucy (Alice) or a bit too popular for my taste (Anna, Emma). So feeling a bit stuck!

If you're looking for anything remotely out there forget Olivia. It's been at or near the top of the name charts for years.
You may also want to consider that Lucy may feel a bit short changed if she has a mainstream name and her sister has a more unusual name.
Out of your list I Love Simone and Eliza.

Yika · 27/09/2021 23:01

I love Simone and it's less usual than the others.

Choose Mary a lovely name used in my family. My nan mam sister niece grand niece . Simple and lovely

imageforu · 27/09/2021 23:04

Jemima is lovely. I love Olivia too, even if it's popular (I've hardly met any!). I prefer Elizabeth to Eliza which I find a bit harsh.

How about Clara?
