Two middle names?

So I'm thinking of giving my daughter two middle names, after her two grandmothers. Where I'm from (France) it wouldn't be a problem because we never ever use the middle name(s) (you only see them on official documents). I was wondering if it would make her life difficult here in the UK? Would people think it's her full name? Of would it be like France? Thanks!

My dd has 2 middle names and it’s never been an issue

Same as pp all my 4 children have two middle names it matters not a jot!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 18/09/2021 10:32

Its no problem. No one really uses them in the UK either, except when telling off their children.

2 of my dc have 2. Not an issue.

Both of mine have 2 middle names - the only problem I ever have is sometimes I he boxes on forms aren't long enough. Other than that there are no problems with 2 middle names

Ours have two middle names. They are only on things like the electoral register, certificates and letters, etc.

Mr J M C xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Ms R B M xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

In full on uni uni Certs where their names take-up two lines.

We did, it's a bit of a non thing. But of a pain to fill forms out.

Fine

@MissMarion. We did the same as you were thinking and gave DS 2 middle names after both his Grandfathers.

Thanks all. That's great to know. I think we'll do it, with short versions of her grandmas' names (like Kate after my mum Catherine).

Both my boys have 2 middle names
They’re never used
Dh insisted so they’d have 4 initials if they ever played cricket for England

My daughter has two middles names. Never been a problem and can't think why it would. She's an adult now.

LittleGwyneth · 20/09/2021 12:40

Me and my siblings all have two, as do a lot of my friends, I think it's pretty normal.

SummaLuvin · 20/09/2021 13:23

For me it depends somewhat on surname. I have a short one syllable surname so would have no issue with two middle names. My husband has a long double barrel name so I think adding two middle names makes things excessively long. That being said, I don't think it would cause problems, and it's not that unusual to have two, so really it's on personal preference.

Just note that if, like me, you do feel like depending on surnames it might be too long then maybe avoid. If you have a daughter she may change her name if she marries and could marry into a long one. A growing number of women are changing surnames upon marriage, but adding their maiden name as an extra middle name, if you already have two this would then be three! Finally, even if you have a boy more couples both changing name to double barrel these days, so no guarantee their surname won't change to become longer.

KirstenBlest · 20/09/2021 18:50

I'd consider the flow of the name. Firstname Surname is the most important thing.

MuchTooTired · 20/09/2021 19:16

Without being a show off, I have 3 middle names and a double barrelled surname. Wink

My kids both have two. It’s no bother, I just don’t put the middle names on forms unless I have to!

35andThriving · 27/09/2021 16:51

It doesn't cause any problems. Only one middle name will show up on a UK driving license though. The second middle name is reduced to just an initial.

WestToEast · 27/09/2021 19:20

We'll be giving ours two, but the second will be my middle name. We're married and I kept my name, but wasn't keen on a double-barrell for our children so second middle name it is. In terms of what I'll actually call them day to day it'll be first name or first name and first middle name.
