Does this suit my surname?

Baby is called Cameron, but we will probably use Cam/Cammy day to day.

I'm struggling to see him as a Cameron tho.. I've really struggled with names this time round (second boy)

I'm worried that Cameron doesn't suit our surname (rhymes with Elvin) - obviously this is what he'll get called at school etc- does this sound odd to you?

Does your last name begin with a c or a k? If not I think it sounds nice

morecoffeequick · 17/09/2021 12:46

Thanks @Wole
No, not a c or k
I worry that the -on -in endings clash...

When your DS goes to school, you will be asked what you would like them to be called.
Just say he is to be called Cam.
No different to all the James who get called Jamie or Olivers who get called Olly by the teacher.
The full name is often only ever seen on exam certificates.
If you simply don't like the name, then do you prefer the middle name? Using the middle name as the middle name also happens, though perhaps less commonly these days than in the past.

*as the main name also happens

emmathedilemma · 17/09/2021 13:27

If it's Melvin then Cameron and Cammie are ok but Cam just merges into one word.

I think you're massively overthinking
Your son has a gorgeous name

I hope this doesn't sound rude but do you think you may have OCD or PND? You've picked a lovely name for your son by the way. Congratulations

bloominglovelyorange · 17/09/2021 14:05

The On and In endings don't clash and isn't an issue even if they did

morecoffeequick · 17/09/2021 16:00

Ok thanks for that it is reassuring.
@bloominglovelyorange I don't have PND or OCD but I have had a horrendous year, terrible bereavement and a tricky pregnancy so perhaps I am overthinking.. I will try to embrace Cameron/Cammy thanks.

Cameron is a lovely name and no, it doesn’t clash with your surname at all.

mediciempire · 17/09/2021 19:42

For what it's worth, the only two Cameron's I know were predominately Cameron's. One used Cammy as a nickname, the other was Cam or Cammy occasionally but not very often. I think it is more common for people to refer to them as Cameron surname rather than Cammy surname or Cam surname so I really wouldn't worry.
