Ettie?

What do people think of Ettie? I like it but unsure if should choose a longer name and then shorten to Ettie...but then I think is that odd if you want to call her Ettie? 😂

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Blubells · 09/09/2021 21:23

For a boy or girl?

Nahhh · 09/09/2021 21:24

I think Ettie sounds like a nickname and I’d give her a longer name on her birth certificate to fall back on. I’ve no idea what though.

Blubells · 09/09/2021 21:24

I'd assume short for Etienne, a boys name.

Aisforharlot · 09/09/2021 21:26

It was my great grandmother's name! I think a derivative of Kitty (or whatever the Yiddish version was)

TheGratefulWitchCried · 09/09/2021 21:27

Love it, but then I love following Kizzy and Ettie's pony adventures!

LadyVanDijk · 09/09/2021 21:27

I had an elderly aunt who was Ettie short for Rosetta.

MeredithGreyishblue · 09/09/2021 21:28

Short for 'Arriet if you live round here! .

Actually, I do like it!

Rogue1001 · 09/09/2021 21:29

I've never said this on a baby name thread before, but I LOVE it 💕

Mumdiva99 · 09/09/2021 21:30

Won't you spend your time (or her) saying "No not Hetty, it's Ettie with no H".....and people just thinking you can't speak well and have dropped the H....

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 09/09/2021 21:31

I like it and I never say that on these threads!

TheyreTheSamePicture · 09/09/2021 21:32

I like it. An acquaintance I knew a few years ago had a daughter with that name - thought it was adorable, quirky/vintage vibe

Squeakerfoot · 09/09/2021 21:39

It's lovely. It does sound like a nickname and with nicknamey names I do feel it's nice to give a more formal option too. Esther, Elizabeth, Harriet, Henrietta or Juliet are options if you like any of those.

careerchangeperhaps · 09/09/2021 21:40

It's pretty but quite unusual. I'm not sure what it would be short for?

Similar names to consider: Ottilie, Effie, Edie / Edith

As a derail, I saw Otilie spelt Otterly the other day. Gives it quite a different meaning! 🦦

Me too!
BrilliantBetty · 09/09/2021 21:54

Quite like it. Sounds like your trying to say Hettie. Short for Henrietta or Harriet.

sunnygemini · 09/09/2021 21:55

I love it, I would probably choose Juliette and shorten to Ettie as I like both versions

Aurorie11 · 09/09/2021 21:55

Ettie is NN for a Juliet I know

DoylyCarte · 09/09/2021 22:00

Etta is similar and a name unto itself a la Etta James.

I like Ettie too; love Rosetta. I guess it could also be a nn for Lettice or Letitia?

TrampolineForMrKite · 09/09/2021 22:06

I know an Esther who’s nicknamed Ettie.

3peassuit · 09/09/2021 22:11

I’ve known a couple of Etties, it’s a shortened form of Ethna.

TempsPerdu · 09/09/2021 22:18

DD is an Ettie - her ‘big name’ is Greta. We love it, it gets a good response from others and it really suits her but I’m pleased she has something a bit stronger and more substantial for a full name. Juliet, Harriet, Esther etc would all work.

The only other Ettie we’ve come across so far was named to honour a grandma Ethel!

ilovemykids5 · 09/09/2021 22:20

Love Ettie. Wouldn't go for a longer name.

CaffiSaliMali · 10/09/2021 09:05

I like Ettie, my first thoughts for a 'longer name' were Juliet/Juliette and Harriet. Henrietta and Esther could also work.

senseofdoom · 10/09/2021 09:18

I would assume Ettie is short for Ethel (or you had dropped an H).

What about Hettie? Short for Harriet?
