Trying to narrow down girls list...

Fiadh (Fee-ah)

Fia (Fee-ah)

Ffion (Fee-on)

I do like Fiadh but it's in the top 5 names here in NI which is putting me off hence maybe the different spelling

If Fiadh is top 5 and that's putting you off, then spelling it as Fia will just mean it will get misspelt. You might as well spell it Pheeagh.

Ffion is nice but will get mixed up with Fionn.

Never heard of the first two. Are they Irish or similar!
I like Ffion.

I like Ffion. If you’re worried about the other name’s popularity, mucking about with the spelling won’t really help.

DramaAlpaca · 04/09/2021 12:43

Fia and Fiadh are both acceptable spellings. I prefer both to Ffion. The popularity wouldn't bother me if I loved the name

PearlyRising · 04/09/2021 12:51

Fiadh is nice but it's so popular.
What about Sofia with Fia nn?

What about Fraoch? Only ever met one Fraoch.
Loved it.

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 04/09/2021 13:07

I like them all

Maybe go thurs option if first is b popular

DotDotDotDotDot · 04/09/2021 13:45

I’d go for Fiadh if I were you if you love it. Maybe you could choose a more unusual middle name. No need to use the Fia spelling if you live in NI, people will know how to pronounce it correctly. Ffion doesn’t translate well in French just to bear in mind. I also think people may confuse it with the Irish boys name Fionn.

luannlele · 04/09/2021 13:50

Then how about Aoife ?

SoSoSoSleepy · 04/09/2021 14:12

Fiadh is lovely and that's the spelling I'd use. I also love Ffion, it was on our list, but we used to live in France and we know lots of french speakers, which ultimately put us off. We went with Phoebe - also popular but I've always thought it was beautiful and I don't regret using it. I also love Fern - soft but strong sounding. A non floral nature name with links to Charlotte's Web.

Classica · 05/09/2021 03:54

WAY too many Fiadhs on the island of Ireland.

peanutnest · 05/09/2021 04:07

Popular names are fine Smile and I would definitely go with the conventional spelling.

...and I had to Google what Ffion means in French. For anyone wondering, fion = ass Blush this was not covered in French GCSE!
