Down to 2 girls names..help

[Almostcooked2021]

We’re expecting end of this month and have managed to get down to 2 girls names we both really like and cannot decide between. Surname is one syllable and older brother William.

Jessica Rose B (will be Jessie / Jess)
Madison Rose B (will be Maddie)

Rose is set (I know some people think it’s a bit too popular now but it has significant meaning).

Jessica is lovely, I'd pick that. Madison has a pretty sound, but it's a little tacky and made up (from the film Splash). Madeleine is so much nicer and of course you also get Maddie from that. Madeleine and Jessica are equally lovely.

Jessica out of the two, although it does feel a bit 90s to me - seems to be having a bit of a resurgence though.

Really not keen on Madison at all. I love pp's suggestion of Madeleine. Beautiful name and you can still have nn of Maddie.

The difference in number of Ds between Madison and Maddie would annoy me!

If you are in ok then Jessica by a country mile. Madison sounds really American to me still and not fond of it at all. Why not Madeleine ?? To get to Maddy. Much more beautiful. ??

@JSL52 you'll be pleased to know my daughter only ever goes by her full name (shortenings of it are awful to be fair)

I guess people pick names with NN as its inevitable that some names get shortened, like Jonathan to Jon.

Dd's best friend is Madison/Maddie - she's somehow ended up being Sonny at school.

Between the two, Jessica - no contest, a pretty Shakespearean choice.

William and Madison are such a mitch match - one is classic, very timeless with some wonderful historical namesakes and the other is a surname that only became popular for girls as a first name after a cute 80's film.

But I agree with pp's that classic Madeleine would be an nice alternative, if you really love the nn Maddie.

I guess that’s because we know it’ll get shortened. William is very rarely William and nearly always Will so I need to know I’m comfortable with the shortened versions.

Just saw sibling is William. Could not agree more that Madison is a wholly different type of name ( partic if it is Will rather than say Billy).

Can’t imagine how this would ever crop up but if there were a Will and Madison sibling lair and I were forced to have an opinion I might think they had different fathers or one was adopted or fostered etc. That’s how different they sound to me.
Not sure that all matters but there we are.
