Jude for a girl?

In the real world, I only know little boy Judes. When I was a child I believe I knew a couple of female Judy/Judiths (friends of parents or neighbours), but none now.

On Mumsnet, I always see peoole say that they like Jude for a girl as opposed to a boy.

Is Jude for a girl a nickname for Judith (or a name that comes from Judith but is a name in it's own right)? I always thought Judith in the bible was a great namesake but don't think Judith is ready for a comeback.

What do you think of Jude for a girl? It's always been on my boy's list, but I'm wondering whether to shift it onto my girl's list.

Judy is sweet too, but I can't quite convince myself of Judith.

St Jude is deffo a bloke so weird to use as a full name for a girl. Mid century names like Judith are definitely reviving and I quite like it - but if you really don’t then just use something like Julia?

Like I said, I don't like the trend of naming girls boy's names. Was merely inquiring as to whether Jude was a boy's name, or unisex. Seem that many posters know many female Judes!

Judith is a good name for a girl, I've not known any female Judes except as a short form of Judith.

I live in the Middle East and have taught lots of little girls called Joud (Arabic spelling) most have the cute nickname juju or Judy. All have been lovely 🥰

I know a female Jude, full name . She's 21 now. I knew her all through school, never any confusion or query about her name.

I don’t think you can call it unisex really, it’s 57th for boys and 2170th for girls. Therefore it is definitely a dominate boys name. That’s not me saying you can’t use it for girls but she will definitely get mistaken for a girl on the register etc.
