I think Leonora is lovely but I'm not sure how to pronounce the first name properly

lyntheyresexpeople · 30/08/2021 23:14

Sounds like a Harry Potter spell or a type of disease.

SpongebobNoPants · 30/08/2021 23:15

Sounds like a cleaning product and like you’re trying too hard to be quirky / upper middle class. Sorry, just being honest they would be my first thoughts

Tulips15 · 30/08/2021 23:15

I dont know how to say the first name..
Error-mia?
Its a no from me on both

DramaAlpaca · 30/08/2021 23:15

Leonora is beautiful.

I'm not so sure about Eremia, tbh.

mrwalkensir · 30/08/2021 23:16

why? Would you like to be called that?

Emedrina · 30/08/2021 23:17

We live in Poland so here it is pronounced as E-RE-MEE-AH

Where does Eremia come from? I haven't heard it before.

Leonora's lovely.

PetticoatSoldier · 30/08/2021 23:17

I read it as Enema Leonora 😳.... so the first part is a no from me!

Leonora is nice and I love the idea of Leo as a shortened informal name for a girl too.

Givemethatknife · 30/08/2021 23:17

@DramaAlpaca

Leonora is beautiful.

I'm not so sure about Eremia, tbh.

Yep. Can you flip the order?
ShowOfHands · 30/08/2021 23:17

'Ere Mia get tha' int woodshed.

EmeraldGreenVelvet · 30/08/2021 23:20

Agree that Eremia sounds like some kind of illness to English ears, but if you're in Poland that won't matter. Isn't there a Polish Mumsnet equivalent you could ask?
I quite like Leonora though.

Emedrina · 30/08/2021 23:20

this is an old Slavic name, the feminine version of Jeremy

OP posts:
lottiegarbanzo · 30/08/2021 23:21

Is it possible to spell Eremia differently? I think it would be read as Er-EE-me-a in England. Er-eh-ME-a might be spelt Ereemia, Erramia or something.

lottiegarbanzo · 30/08/2021 23:22

Hang on, not my first suggestion there. Whish syllable do you emphasise?

mrwalkensir · 30/08/2021 23:23

yep - Mumsnet is largely UK based - apologies

lottiegarbanzo · 30/08/2021 23:26

Could it be Yeramia, or is it very much an E sound? If I try to pronounce Jer without sounding the J it's more like a Y sound than an E.

Velvetbee · 30/08/2021 23:26

I haven’t heard it before, it sounds beautiful.

MissCruellaDeVil · 31/08/2021 02:11

Sorry it reminds me of a rare medical condition.

Gingernaut · 31/08/2021 02:42

@MissCruellaDeVil

Sorry it reminds me of a rare medical condition.
Same.
Kanaloa · 31/08/2021 03:03

I think Leonora is nicer than Eremia.

UrbanRambler · 31/08/2021 04:03

Too many syllables, IMO, so comes across as fussy and pretentious. Also, the first name sounds like some sort of disease, and the second name is too similar to a famous brand of fabric conditioner.

WildCherryBlossom · 31/08/2021 04:19

I haven't heard Eremia before but I think it sounds very pretty.

Tipmeup · 31/08/2021 05:03

Eremia would be tricky in the U.K., but if it’s Polish and you live in Poland I think it sounds nice. I like Leonora but that’s easier on British ears. Go for it!

Balonzette · 31/08/2021 06:33

Leonora is lovely.
