Love it

Have all the people disparaging the name not heard of Robin Hood? It's a heroic, noble name indicating a champion of social justice.

DukeOfEarlGrey · 23/08/2021 23:44

I like it. I’ve known three Male Robins and all were fab men, come to think of it. One was 6ft 4” and devastatingly handsome to boot, not wet at all...!

elp30 · 24/08/2021 01:52

I always think of Robin Gibb of The Bee Gees.
He had a beautiful voice, wrote great songs and produced wonderful music.
I like it.

bloominglovelyorange · 24/08/2021 07:29

It's nice.
One thing to note - There's a lot of Ro--- names that are top 100 and increasingly popular so it merges a bit with all the Roman, Ronnie, Rory, Reuben style names when they're all in a class together

Member589500 · 24/08/2021 09:25

Love it

chilledteacher · 24/08/2021 09:28

My youngest is a Robin. He's a right little thug at the moment Grin

saywhatwhatnow · 24/08/2021 09:30

It was on our list for DS2. I like it!

OrangeAndYellowAndBlue · 24/08/2021 10:35

I really like it. And he can be Rob or Robbie if he likes too. I think Robin Hood or Robin Williams.

IAmWomxxnHearMeRoar · 24/08/2021 11:04

I'm pregnant and if it's a boy, he'll be Robin, although I'll probably call him Robbie when he's a babe. I'm planning on telling everyone I'm naming him after Robin Hood as I'm known for being v left wing, but it's just cause I like the name.
(Personally can't wait to buy cheesy Christmas jumpers covered in robins.....!)

Giantwaterbottle · 24/08/2021 11:09

@IAmWomxxnHearMeRoar yes to the Christmas jumpers!
I never really thought about the "wet" connotations. It's not something that bothers me in the least. I'm not even sure what that means. Feminine?

Really glad lots like it.

DS1 is Edward. DS2 is Charlie.

As PP have said, it reminds me of Robin Hood, Robin Williams.

It's not a family name no. Middle name would probably be Mathew.

Also thought girls name Robin was spelled Robyn

IAmWomxxnHearMeRoar · 24/08/2021 11:13

I think of Robin as short for Robert, but I just think that's old and boring. I don't know if the wet thing is because it seems to be mostly quite a posh name now, which puts me off, but not enough to not pick it.
Personally I don't like it for a girl at all (however it's spelt), because for me it's a boys name.

Theforest · 24/08/2021 11:15

DS14 has a friend called Robin. I have never thought it was wet or old fashioned. It just seems like a cool name for him. I like it.

suckingonchillidogs · 24/08/2021 11:16

I'd think Holy name choice! But then I'm old and most people won't make that connection 😬

SirVixofVixHall · 24/08/2021 11:18

I had a friend called Robin, he is no longer alive but was the least wet person imaginable, I like the name very much.

Giantwaterbottle · 24/08/2021 14:24

@SirVixofVixHall I'm sorry for your loss 😢

SirVixofVixHall · 24/08/2021 15:40

That is kind to say, thank you. He is very missed.

Givemethatknife · 25/08/2021 00:08

Love it for a girl, spelt straight, as it is the US

Find it too feminine for a boy - I do like Robert nn Robbie tho

Blueberry40 · 26/08/2021 10:11

Absolutely love this for a boy or a girl. Great choice!

daisypond · 26/08/2021 10:36

I don’t like it. It’s a diminutive, and I don’t like those, really. It’s short for Robert, which is a vastly stronger name.

KittenKong · 26/08/2021 13:05

Not the ones I know.

midsomermurderess · 26/08/2021 14:54

It isn't a a reference to a tiny bird, it's from Robert, a shortening in use for centuries.

KittenKong · 26/08/2021 14:59

One I know is a short version of Robertson (the mums maiden name - Robin on the birth certificate) and our old lawyer was a Robin (his full name). Both in Scotland.
