90s names

Walking through my local town centre yesterday I felt like I'd stepped back into the 90s, which got me wondering if we might see some 90s icons names making a comeback?

Maybe we'll see a baby Kurt, Courtney or Alanis.

Perhaps twins named PJ and Duncan would be a step too far, but which other names could be due to make a reappearance?

Just to add - Humour me it's been a long week and I could do with a distraction!

My dd is a 90s baby

Maybe we could have lots of Georgia's. When she was 7 she had 7 friends called Georgia.

Emily- 20% of the girls in her year were called Emily.

A lot of classic names which have stood the test of time really, although you don't hear of many Paige's and Shannon's as baby's now. I'm an 80s baby myself but remember a younger colleague telling me her middle name is Louise the same as several of her friends, I guess that was the Rose of its time.

I maybe should have been clearer in my post title I was thinking about names of 90s icons and people from pop culture so I guess people born in the 60s and 70s, a few more I've thought of:

Dolores
Sinead
Belinda
Drew
Winona

Here in Australia the births announcements were full of Jessica, Sophie, Chloe, Zoe and variations of Taylor (Tayla-Jade, Taylah-Rose, Taela-Mae). Boys were Jack (in their thousands), Matthew, Nathan and cod-Irish things like Rhileigh and Koby.
The later '90s delivered a shipload of boys called Harry --- ooh, I wonder which literary phenomenon brought that on?

groovergirl · 23/08/2021 06:47

Sorry OP, just read your second post.

Celine, Shania, Kylie, Holly, Melissa, Vanessa

Jason, Damon, Liam, Brad, Pierce and heaps of Michaels (Jackson, Jordan, Tyson -- surnames that became the given names of '90s babies!)

SeoultoSeoul · 23/08/2021 07:23

I'm intrigued as to why walking through a town centre made you feel like you were in the 90's?
Do you mean because you still have a town centre? Ours has mostly closed down.

tandtworry · 23/08/2021 08:24

@SeoultoSeoul haha no it's the clothes all the young, cool people are wearing, I'm a bit out of touch with current trends so I was really surprised how much it's taken off, I must have been the only person still in skinny jeans!

@groovergirl that's really interesting about surnames being used as first names, I hadn't made that connection but now it's really obvious.

tandtworry Ahh I see! I'm embracing the mum jeans and never really grew out of the Stone Roses T shirts.

Jins · 23/08/2021 09:31

No mention of Jack? So many during the 90s.
Lauren and Katie seemed fairly frequent too

peaceinourtime · 23/08/2021 15:58

Classic 90's names for me are Sarah (though not exclusive to the 90's I know), Elise or Elisse, I had three in my year in primary school, Samantha and Alysha. For boys Brayden- I have only known of one since primary school I an ex work colleagues son.

VetInAVat · 23/08/2021 16:05

I had 5 girls named Zoé in one class. Along with a plethora of Hannahs, Gemmas, Megans, Jack/Jake and Daniels.

This webpage is really interesting to spot the trends over the decades: www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/livebirths/datasets/babynamesenglandandwalestop100babynameshistoricaldata

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 23/08/2021 17:51

@Jins. I wouldn’t have thought Jack would be mentioned. It’s still in the top 10. Therefore has stood the test of time.

It’s not one of those names that when you hear it you think. “Oh I haven’t heard that in years.”

Callum
Jordan
Connor
Aaron
Luke
Sean
Ryan

Chelsea
Shannon
Chloe
Georgia

I was born in the early 90s. The girls names I heard most growing up were Amy, Rebecca, Hannah, Rachel, there were at least 3 or 4 in my school year.

In terms of boys names, there were at least 3 Lewis’s, Matthews, Michaels, Daniels & Stephens in my school year
