Jamie and Sean?

Hi everyone, we already have a son called Jamie, second baby boy is due in 6 weeks and we picked Sean. What do we think of Jamie and Sean for brothers names? I think this is UK forum mostly, I presume everyone in England would know how to pronauce Sean? :) we live in Ireland so no problems here :) I’ve gone through life in Ireland having to spell my name constantly to everyone so would rather avoid spelling it for my kids too!:) although it’s always listed as one of the most popular names I actually don’t personally know any Seans! My husband is Irish and has a big family and tons of friends and not one Sean there either. Anyway what do you think?

Sean

GreyhoundG1rl · 20/08/2021 01:45

I know a pair of siblings with these exact names, oddly enough.

And yes, everybody in England knows how to pronounce Seán.

MrsPumpkinSeed · 20/08/2021 01:48

Gorgeous names. Go for it. Sean is a very handsome name.

AliceMcK · 20/08/2021 02:11

Jamie and Sean, I think it rolls off the tongue nicely x

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 20/08/2021 07:56

Yes, Sean is widely known in the UK and there won’t be any pronunciation problems. It feels quite 90s to me and it’s unusual for a baby in E&W at the moment but obviously the cultural context of Ireland is very different.

sleepyhead · 20/08/2021 08:12

I think Sean is quite old fashioned at the moment so that's why there's not that many around, but it's a nice name so go for it.

sleepyhead · 20/08/2021 08:14

The equivalent in the UK is John which also went out of fashion after being ubiquitous for centuries.

I wonder if Jan has had a similar drop in countries which use that form?

Jack is still really popular though.

Disfordarkchocolate · 20/08/2021 08:17

I know how to pronounce it but in my head I always rhythm it with Bean in a Yorkshire accent. He has a manly stance and a cup of tea.

I like the name though, its a good solid name.

entrytohr · 20/08/2021 09:18

I know a Sean. In England he says everyone can pronounce it, but they automatically default to Shaun when spelling it. I'm presuming this wouldn't be an issue with living in Ireland though?

emmathedilemma · 20/08/2021 16:37

I know two Sean's in their late teens / early twenties and went to school with a couple who will now be mid 40's so it works for all age groups for me. I've also come across quite Irish ones through work. It's a good name and I don't think you'd have any pronunciation issues, the only thing might be the spelling between Sean and Shaun.

Elisemum · 21/08/2021 06:58

Thanks everyone. We’re gonna go for it!:)

Neither name to my taste but both perfectly reasonable names and go well together. Go for it.

romdowa · 21/08/2021 07:41

They go really well together and I think Sean is universally known at this stage, so definitely nothing to worry about there.

WestToEast · 21/08/2021 15:37

Jamie and Sean are the names of half of my husband's friends, all born late 80s in Scotland. Both absolutely fine names, and probably not as common as they once were. Go for it.

SeoultoSeoul · 23/08/2021 06:23

Sean is a great name. I know 2 little ones

Buttons294749 · 23/08/2021 21:15

Sean is lovely. I know lots my age (30s) but it's a lovely classic name so imo not dated.

Everyone in the UK knows how to pronounce it!

Giantwaterbottle · 23/08/2021 21:24

I love the name Sean 👌

PearlyBird · 24/08/2021 19:32

I'm in Ireland and I like that combination Jamie and Sean.

They aren't dated exactly but they sound like they could be 25, or 35!
So quite timeless.

Elisemum · 25/08/2021 17:03

Thanks, yup we are 100% settled on Sean then :) can’t wait now for our baby to arrive
