What do you think of the name Neil? Grin

Just that, really!

I think Neil the baby too and I’ve not even seen all of G&S. I do know a relatively young Niall though.

MrsMoastyToasty · 11/08/2021 12:52

My first thought was Neil the hippy from The Young Ones.

emmathedilemma · 11/08/2021 13:47

I'm in Scotland and associate it with the 40+ age group. I don't think i've come across one younger.

WhoppingBigBackside · 11/08/2021 15:33

Will be nicknamed Nellie.

I like Neil.

Buttercup54321 · 12/08/2021 00:20

Niall is better. Neil is very dated.

Joolsin · 12/08/2021 00:28

I think it's very boring. As is Niall. When I was in hospital after having DD, another mum on the ward dithered for a full week over whether to call her new baby son Neil or Niall? She still hadn't decided when I was leaving (my opinion was neither).

Snugglybuggly · 12/08/2021 00:51

Not keen

Enough4me · 12/08/2021 00:58

If I hear it I think kneel where, kneel down?

Kanaloa · 12/08/2021 01:00

Not to my taste. I definitely wouldn’t agree that it’s ‘a classic like Alexander and James.’ Those names are less dates and have more widespread use historically.

Kanaloa · 12/08/2021 01:01

To me it’s more along the same lines as Gerry, Steve, Gary, Darren. Not bad names by any stretch but dated and not my style.

joieria · 12/08/2021 01:05

I know a two year old Neil. I don't think it's so different to lots of other popular boys names atm

whatausername · 12/08/2021 01:55

It's nice!

NeilTheBaby · 12/08/2021 02:31

It's perfect Grin

frazzledasarock · 12/08/2021 03:38

I like it, purely because I know a Neil (he must be in his fifties) who’s a really nice bloke.

Thatsnotmypolarbear · 12/08/2021 09:05

It definitely reminds me of Gavin and Stacey, but it's fine. I much prefer Niall though.

Enko · 14/08/2021 01:08

I really like Neil and suggested it for ds but dh wasn't keen
I've known some lovely Neil's too so for me its a positive name.

DramaAlpaca · 14/08/2021 01:11

I like it. I don't get any of the references above. My friend has a teenage Neil, it's nice.

Lindy2 · 14/08/2021 01:34

At the risk of showing my age it's Neil from the Young Ones that first comes to my mind.

It's a decent, proper name though and there won't be many others around. I think wee Neil sounds rather sweet.

HPLikecraft · 14/08/2021 03:35

I have a soft spot for it as my brother’s Neil, but he’s 55! (And Scottish). It’s a nice name but perhaps a little dated, and not quite yet in revival mode.

We spent the first year taking the mick out of his middle aged man name in every conversation

Every conversation for a year? Confused What a bunch of twattish bullies.
