Edward?

Is this boring? Despite its popularity I don't know of any and I love all nicknames it comes with, Ted, Teddy, Woody, Ned etc. Does it work for a baby/toddler/child?

Lovely name. Classic. Timeless. Classless. Perfect!

DS has a friend called Edward and he's always been know as Ted. I think it's a lovely name and if you like it, why not choose it? Smile

Violetlavenders · 05/08/2021 14:19

Personally I find it a little dull.

Helenluvsrob · 05/08/2021 14:26

Fine name. Avoid woody as a nn - teasing potential huge.
Teddy …. Very babying and ultra common.

Otherwise it’s a name that works in all contexts

It is boring. I'm not really sure what you mean by if it works for a baby and child. Some names are dated, but Edward has been popular so long that's not really a concern. Regardless, it's in the top 25 so there will be thousands of others.

I don’t think it’s at all boring. Lovely classic name, we have one in our ey group

WaitinginVain · 05/08/2021 14:44

I think it's classic but in a boring, old-fashioned way. Like you, do like a lot of the nicknames though.

Chilldonaldchill · 05/08/2021 15:16

I like it and don't think it's boring. Interestingly I can't think of a single young Edward I know despite having children the their late teens - there's never been an Edward in their entire schools.
I'm not a fan of Woody but love Ned, Ted and Ed.

FadoFado · 05/08/2021 16:06

I like Edward. Strong and manly. Ed or Eddie are my favourite shortenings. I really don't like Teddy or Woody.

astonvanilla · 05/08/2021 16:18

Bit biased but I have an Edward- there was also an Eddie at his preschool but no others yet (he is 7)

waterlego · 05/08/2021 16:30

I love it, and prefer Ed/Eddie for nicknames.
As for popularity, I don’t know loads. I know a few in my age group (40s), one very little Edward and a 13 year-old Eduards (Latvian, I think). Great choice, IMO.

Lovely - so classic and timeless and suits all ages with some great namesakes. My fave nn's personally are Ned (except in Scotland!), Bear (if you don't mind Mr Grylls) and Iolo (if in Wales).
