Felicity as a middle name?

Well it's been a battle but I think we have decided on a name for our September baby. We both like Rosie but DH has been pushing for Felicity since I told him I was pregnant...I'm lukewarm about it but would be happy to use as a middle name.
But is it too "lumpy" for want of a better word as a middle name?
Surname is one syllable if that helps to envisage it.

No it's fab.
I love longer middle names.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 03/08/2021 21:36

I’m sorry but Rosie Felicity is far to ie heavy, IMO.

DramaAlpaca · 03/08/2021 21:36

No it's lovely and has a nice meaning too.

GintyMcGinty · 03/08/2021 21:37

Its a nice enough name.

Don't worry about it too much. The only time middle names are really mentioned in life are birth announcements, christenings and wedding vows.

Synchrony · 03/08/2021 21:43

It's fine. After agonising for ages about my child's middle name I now realise it was pointless! No one else cares after the birth announcement!

TooManyAnimals94 · 03/08/2021 21:50

Thanks for the responses. I'm going to sleep on it before I fully commit. It hasn't really been a fun experience...we usually agree on most things but have really struggled to find common ground.
I'm not even sure I want to fully decide on a name until she's here. What if we look at her and it just doesn't feel right?

I'm usually not keen on middle names that end with the same sound as the first name (so Rosie Felicity doesn't flow as well to me as Rosa Felicity for instance) BUT middle names are rarely said aloud. So if you/he love Felicity, I say go for it - it's a nice name.

Violetlavenders · 04/08/2021 07:28

Rosie Felicity doesn't flow well unfortunately.

But then I don't see the point of middle names as they never get used.

Zarene · 04/08/2021 07:34

Agree with all of the above.... it’s not got the greatest flow, but meaning and marital harmony are more important!

With hindsight I don’t love DD’s middle name, but it matters not one jot.

But if you want an alternative - Felicia?

CherryMaple · 04/08/2021 07:34

I love the name Felicity. I think Rosie Felicity is lovely, nice rhythm to it, and will sound great with a one syllable surname. Go for it OP.

Skybluepinkgiraffe · 04/08/2021 07:44

I like it. I think some names are 'middle namey'. When I was born middle names were all Ann, Jane, Mary, Louise etc.
I thought it was much more fun to give my children more interesting names in the middle.
I think Felicity sits well with Rosie.
Hope you sort a name out that you both like Smile

DotDotDotDotDot · 04/08/2021 09:28

I love pp’s suggestion of Rosie Felicia. It flows much nicer and still has the lovely meaning of Felicity. Good luck.

SoapboxFox · 04/08/2021 10:10

Rosie Felicity sounds lovely.

TatianaBis · 04/08/2021 10:47

Rose Felicity works. Then just call her Rosie.

RuthW · 04/08/2021 12:20

How about Felicity Rose?

ILoveShula · 04/08/2021 13:26

It's lovely as a middle name but too long IMO as a first name.

Rosie Felicity Surname is better than Rosie Rose/Grace/May Surname

IdblowJonSnow · 04/08/2021 13:27

Rose Felicity is much nicer. But middle names don't matter much.

Pemba · 04/08/2021 14:43

Nothing wrong with a longer name as a middle name. Makes the whole name more interesting in fact!

It doesn't have to be Rose, May, or Grace for the middle.

Pemba · 04/08/2021 14:45

But I agree that Rose Felicity (or Rosa Felicity?) flows better than Rosie Felicity. It's the repeated 'ee' sounds at the end of the two names that make it a bit clunky.

Then just call her Rosie as diminutive of Rose/Rosa. Or obviously, you could have Rosalind etc.

Pemba · 04/08/2021 14:52

Or another thing you could do is break it up by introducing another middle name in between, eg Rosie Grace Felicity. But personally, I would rather have Rose, Rosa, etc than Rosie on a birth certificate, as Rosie, whilst lovely, is quite informal and a bit little-girly. Imagine a Prime Minister or High Court Judge named Rosie! She would be the Right Honourable Rose Smith, Rosie to friends and family.

purplecorkheart · 04/08/2021 14:54

Not a fan of Rosie (I think of it more of a nickname tbh). I think Felicity Rose is a beautiful name.

Theoldwoman · 04/08/2021 15:22

I love Felicity for a first name!

Rosie Felicity doesn't go together.

ILoveShula · 04/08/2021 15:31

The adding Grace is a bit pointless. Every other Rosie will be Rosie Grace.

A regards being a High Court judge etc. would you have thought we'd have Home Secretary called Priti or PM called Boris? Probably not.

Pemba · 04/08/2021 17:53

Grace was just an example. Could be any name that flows OK. Jane, Katherine, Pearl. Etc.

And Priti is a full name, whereas Rosie, though pretty, is IMO a slightly childish diminutive of Rose Rosa etc.

daisypond · 04/08/2021 18:24

I much prefer Felicity as the first name, but it’s OK the other way.
