What are your thoughts on Sidney for a boy? Strangely I'm not keen on Sydney for a girl but I do like Sidney

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I think it's great. I can see a little Sid, would be a great name Smile

I like it and I don't think it's strange that you don't like Sydney for a girl. Sidney is an established boy's name. Sydney is following the silly idea that you can switch a i for a y and suddenly you have a girl's name.

Worst example of this I've seen being Austyn.

Sidney is too retro trendy for me and I personally don't like the sound of the nn "Sid". I prefer the sound of more classic Henry, even though it's very popular - or if you want to go the traditional (but underused now) route then John, Robert, Philip etc

Love it for a boy, don’t like it for a girl.

Love it

It's part of the old-man-chic tend that I'm personally not a massive fan of but I do like it. I know a few little Sidneys and I think it's a name that will age well.

Love it for a girl, hate it for a boy. Reminds me of that weird kid on Skins, sorry.

Reminds me of 1980s TV ads. There was one featuring a seance with a woman saying 'are you there Sidney', and there were those Tetley ads that went on for yonks that featured a hapless guy called Sidney too.

Sid is fine but Sidney just sounds a bit dweeby to me. It's very on trend for the whole grandad name thing.
