Estrilda, there you go! Was used in the 14th century.

Anyone got any other historic ones they fancy adding?

(I am being slightly tongue in cheek btw! I'm not sure Estrilda is quite my taste.)

I always quite liked the name Ernestina after reading The French Lieutenant's Woman. I wouldn't actually use it though!

@Kittyswhiskers

Frideswide Grin
Every single time I see that I wonder if it would be pronounced as it looks 😂 I think it could grow on me...unfortunately I'm afraid any DD would go NC* as soon as she were old enough.

*no contact or name change, depending on how upset!

Goneril. I always throw that one out there when name suggestions take a Shakespearean slant 😂

BobbinThreadbare123 · 18/07/2021 18:46

Ælfgifu is a lovely name!

Æthelflæd

Ethelswith · 18/07/2021 19:03

Ethelswith (also spelled Æthelswith)

WithLoveFromMyselfToYourself · 18/07/2021 19:07

With Winnie raising its head, why not Ermintrude?
My grandma was a Winifred and her poor mother was Gertie Bullock! Apparently she was flighty and went to dance halls behind her husband’s back. Quite an achievement saddled with a name like that I think.

Xuli · 18/07/2021 19:09

In the 15th and 16th century Douglas was a unisex name…

StColumbofNavron · 18/07/2021 19:14

Theodosia popped up for me the other day. Tbh I think many of these could be used. I could see Ernestina.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 18/07/2021 19:19

Is Æthelswith pronounced the same as Ethelswith?

CherryPlumCrow · 18/07/2021 19:22
