This may be hormones and all that, but what do you think of the name Pip for a boy? Or should it really just be a nickname... Help! I'm not a fan of Philip.

Thanks!

It’s nice for a nickname but not just Pip as a name, no.

Cookiebox · 18/07/2021 09:49

I hate it. It's naff and wet. Same as kit or Tim.

daisypond · 18/07/2021 09:52

Absolutely no. Short for Philip or something, fine.

Scarby9 · 18/07/2021 09:52

I know a couple of adult Pips.
But you really do need to give him Philip as his 'real' name, to use as a fallback.
Unless your surname begins with P and you can contrive his initials?

17caterpillars1mouse · 18/07/2021 10:01

Lovely nickname but really needs a full name, Philip, Peregrine, not sure of any others

Thewolvesarerunningagain · 18/07/2021 10:10

How about Piers, Pierce or Pierre as full names and Pip as nn?

RiaOverTheRainbow · 18/07/2021 10:10

I think it could conceivably be a nickname for any P name, but it's not a full name itself.

Do you like Patrick, Peter, Paul, Percival?

CoffeeBeansGalore · 18/07/2021 10:11

Surely any name starting with P could have Pip as a nickname?

No. Use it as a nickname!

hawkehurstgang · 18/07/2021 15:59

Noooo I hate it too. It's so wet.

I agree. Awful.
Cam2020 · 18/07/2021 16:23

Do you like Great Expectations?

DamsonJammyBastard · 18/07/2021 16:36

It feels small and nothingy to me. Maybe it's the pipsqueak association.

bg21 · 18/07/2021 16:38

are you expecting a litter of puppies?

SionnachRua · 18/07/2021 16:38

Nice for a Jack Russell or a Falabella pony. Not a human.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 18/07/2021 17:00

Gorgeous - but I do think it's more of a nickname (some adults may not like/ or suit Pip which has quite a cute, vintage feel imo). I think you could possibly use it on a little one with any given name (as some people do with Bean even once the DC are born - because that's what they called the baby when it was growing inside them); or I agree with other posters than an alternative might be to use the initials P.I.P if you like any other boys names beginning with P.

Comedycook · 18/07/2021 17:01

Great expectations was my first thought

Bas27 · 18/07/2021 17:02

My sons name is Peregrine and we sometimes call him Pip

KirstenBlest · 18/07/2021 17:15

Pippin?

woodfort · 18/07/2021 18:28

I absolutely LOVE Pip but it wild need to be a nickname.

Ellmau · 18/07/2021 19:50

Pepin?
