Have narrowed boys name down but stuck on girls and OH hates my number 1 name and I just don't love his whereas I love all my other kids names....

So girls are

Aiofe
Effie
Fiadh
Imogen
Isabelle
Nova

What do you prefer or any other suggestions

I'm not a fan of Nova (reminds me of dodgy vauxhalls!) but the rest are nice. Imogen is ok as a full name but I know one who gets the nn Imo which i think is a bit ugly.
What about Niamh or Orla?

EileenGC · 13/07/2021 14:49

I like Effie, Isabelle and Nova.

cindarellasbelly · 13/07/2021 15:10

Its Aoife OP, assume that was a typo. I think a lot depends where baby will be raised. If in UK, I like Fiadh, if in Ireland there are a million of them right now so I would avoid unless you want her to be one of three in her class. Similarly I find Aoife quite old-fashioned. Of the others, not a big fan of Nova, but like the other three: again I think Imogen you'd get pronounced a bit strangely in parts of Ireland so others would be easier. I'm assuming there are at least some Irish family given the name choices.

Marcipex · 13/07/2021 15:13

I prefer Isabelle, from your list.

FindingMeno · 13/07/2021 15:15

Effie is gorgeous

RebeccaN8 · 13/07/2021 15:44

Yes I'm in Northern Ireland hence the Irish names in there, Imogen also being Irish but the nicknames for it are what is putting me off tbh...

My other children all end with 'N' though so kinda like that imogen has the same ending 🤷‍♀️

For me, Effie is short for Euphemia (an alternative shortening is Phim). I was nearly Euphemia but my parents feared the cry of 'eff off Effie' so they went for Elizabeth instead. I love both. Personally I'd never use a diminutive as a standalone name, but if you like it go for it.

Chunkymenrock · 13/07/2021 15:50

Isabelle is very dull and Effie sounds like 'effing' so I dislike them a lot. The others are nice.

emmathedilemma · 13/07/2021 16:20

Siobhan
Aine
Roisin

DotDotDotDotDot · 13/07/2021 17:14

Aoife - I love this name. Interesting that pp finds it dated, I guess maybe because it was very popular in Ireland a while back.
Effie - not keen, reminds me of f-off.
Fiadh - lovely name, massively popular in Ireland last couple of years though. Not sure if less so in the North? Also sounds a bit like fear in some accents.
Imogen and Isabelle are both lovely, although you probably have to like the nn’s Immy and Issy as they are likely to be shortened at school.
Nova - I dislike this, just reminds me of the car.
Suggestions, maybe Iris, Erin, Juno, Niamh, Edie?

RavenclawsRoar · 13/07/2021 17:26

I like Effie and Isabelle from your list.

Cbeebiesrehab · 13/07/2021 17:38

My daughter is Effie so wins my vote, very marmite on here but generally liked in real life. She is Evelyn on her BC. I like Fiadh and Aoife too.

TatianaBis · 13/07/2021 18:27

Love Imogen and Fiadh.

Dislike Nova and Effie.

Chachachawoo · 14/07/2021 08:53

Effie.... offie
Is the association I make

Enko · 14/07/2021 10:20

I love Aoife (have a dd called this) Effie and Fiadh are lovely.

I have never liked Imogen and had it suggested loads for dd2 and 3

I find Isabelle boring

I like Nova but it doesn't make me go ohhh

CaffiSaliMali · 14/07/2021 12:02

I like Aoife and Fiadh. Isabelle is nice but I prefer the Isabel spelling.

Imogen isn't to my taste but is a perfectly fine name. Nova is ok.

I quite like Effie but I probably wouldn't use it as it sounds a bit like effing when I say it out loud.

What names do you like and what names does he like? We might be able to suggest something you'll both like.

BellaVida · 14/07/2021 12:36

I like Imogen and Isabelle from your list. All the Imogen’s I’ve known had the nickname Immy.

Other lovely names engine in ‘n’:
Seren
Eden
Lillian
Evelyn
Jocelyn
Lauren
Madelyn
Bethan
Erin

Crockof · 14/07/2021 12:39

Aine? Always thought it sounded pretty

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 14/07/2021 13:02

Imogen is lovely - an elegant celtic/Shakespearean classic imo.

I like Isabel spelled this original and simpler way and like Effie as a nn (for Josephine, Ophelia, Stephanie etc) but not as a given name.

Aiofe is nice enough, but I'm not keen on the sound of Fiadh and Nova feels a bit trendy to me.

20viona · 14/07/2021 13:07

Effie

RebeccaN8 · 14/07/2021 19:31

I do like Fiadh but it's number 4 on the rankings here which puts me off.

Other half wants an Irish name whereas I'm a bit more out there and like

Sage
Eden
Sunday
Story
Nova
Addison

My other kids are
Christian Jay
Autumn Bella
Grayson River

Isabelle or Imogen

Cbeebiesrehab · 14/07/2021 20:17

I think Addison goes really well with your children’s names!

Cbeebiesrehab · 14/07/2021 20:17

Oh Imogen does too actually.
