Unique boy's names

expectinglittlebear · 12/07/2021 16:17

Both myself and DH prefer the more unusual names (we both have quite unusual names ourselves). We already have 3-4 options chosen for a girl, but none set in stone for a boy yet.

We want both a first and middle name that work well together, with our surname which starts with an M and has two syllables.

We have the following names picked out that we like. Are there any variations or similar names you can suggest? TIA.

Hudson
Greyson
Archie
Hugo
Roman
Ezra
Theo
Milo
Axel
Noah
River
Kai
Elijah
Harrison
Tate
Bear

If you like unusual names half on your list are very popular at the moment. (Archie, Theo, Hugo, Milo, Noah, Bear)

FawnDrench · 12/07/2021 18:45

Derek
Cecil
Clarence
Maverick
Merryck
Beverley
Kingdom
Jedediah
Halsey

TotorosCatBus · 12/07/2021 18:57

These are very popular ime
Archie
Roman
Theo
Noah
Kai
Eli
Harrison

My son has one of those names and I frequently hear other parents calling it when out and about and the age range of the kids are anything from teen to toddler.

In the case of Archie and Kai you risk being asked if you are fans of the Sussexes or Rooneys

What are your girl name choices, might help give an idea/find alternatives?

Hudson - I don't like this but it's relatively unusual
Greyson - I like Gray but not keen on Greyson
Archie - super popular
Hugo - I love this. It's not unusual though but I actually only know one who is 16
Roman - super popular
Ezra - I think this is mainstream but not common. I really like it.
Theo - super popular
Milo - I like this but again it's very mainstream
Axel - I really don't like this. It's not that unusual though
Noah - very popular
River - very 80s and a bit naff
Kai - very 80s. Also a bit naff.
Elijah - I quite like this. Again it's very mainstream nowadays
Harrison - very popular
Tate - I only know girls called this
Bear - ok as a middle name, awful as a first name

I would pick Hugo myself but I think Ezra fits your criteria better.
I would go for Ezra Greyson or Ezra Gray from your list.

My DS2 is River Rocco and DS1 is Flynn Rocco (Rocco has a big meaning to our family)

Would you consider Rocco?

I really like some of your choices. I do like Bear and Milo and of course River the best from your choices.

I find boys names so hard. I do like Forest and Wolfie. My friends LB is called Rudy and I love that also.

Moonshine160 · 12/07/2021 21:04

Hmm sorry OP but I wouldn’t classify any of those names as unique as they are all fairly popular. The names in my area that are the most unusual out of those are Tate and Bear.

Mymapuddlington · 12/07/2021 21:04

Unfortunately they’re not unique, strangely I know a few rivers and bears even.
If you genuinely want unique you could go for
Humphrey
Herbert
Abraham
Aaron
Fergus
Bernard

sarah13xx · 12/07/2021 22:59

Ari
Reuben
Nate
Blaine
Rhett
Blythe ( I suddenly love but think it’s more often for girls)

scottmichael · 12/07/2021 23:07

I like Elijah. I've never met one.
I like Milo too.
What Lloyd, Miles, Flynn, Ellis?

scottmichael · 12/07/2021 23:07

What about that should say

bloominglovelyorange · 13/07/2021 09:43

Roman is the fastest rising boy name there is. Already top 30 in Scotland and heading that way in England and across Europe. Hadn't met any baby Romans until the last few years. I now know about 10 born since 2018
It's not unusual in the slightest and one of the top names to avoid if you're wanting something unusual

bloominglovelyorange · 13/07/2021 09:43

Meant to tag you @expectinglittlebear

expectinglittlebear · 13/07/2021 09:51

Thank you for all your suggestions!! I honestly thought they were unusual haha! Goes to show there haven't been many little ones born in my family/friend group in a long time!

@expectinglittlebear

All you need to know if a name is popular or not is the dark greener website, it uses the official ONS data to compile graphs. Here you go, type your names in on the website below - take a look at how Roman has skyrocketed

harriet465 · 12/01/2022 20:05

@TotorosCatBus

I have an Archie and not once have I been asked if I’m a fan of the sussexes

Mumofgirls2017 · 13/01/2022 08:29

If you want unusual Bear, Tate and possibly River or Axel would be the best options as others are in top 100 I think. I like River. Other options:

Ocean
Forest
Wilder
Otto
Vinnie
Elias
Elio
Rocco
Cosmo
Heath
Jett
Ace
Fletcher
Spencer
Phoenix
Everett
Loki
Rio

Flutterflybutterby · 13/01/2022 09:32

Archie, Hugo, Roman, Ezra, Theo, Milo, Noah, Kai, Elijah and Harrison are all incredibly popular names and not at all unusual, so I'd avoid these if you want something rarer.

River, Bear and Axel are climbing in popularity after being used by celebrities recently.

That leaves Tate, Hudson and Greyson. I like Hudson best of the three, but they're all fine, jf a little American (I'm not sure where you're from though)

Riverlee · 13/01/2022 09:34

Garrett
Chase
Bryson
Remington
Wyatt
Seth

Glitterygreen · 13/01/2022 13:52
