Thoughts on Rosabelle

Thoughts on Rosabelle, Rosabella and Rosabel? Reading thread about Florabelle has left me wondering do you ladies have same feeling about every similar name.
Rosa Belle/-a and Rosa-Belle/-a aren't an options.

Based on similar thread by another user I would just want to point a few things:
Having frilly, feminine qualities is not a crime. Everyone chooses what's best for their family. If you sweat by mere idea of frilly, keep in mind some can like these sorts of things.
Your behavior and character can affect your life much more greatly than simple name.
Tomboys are still a girls

I'm no angry, I should known this would happen.

I never, ever been bad towards someone if I disliked his name. I can't imagine being disrespectful to judge if she has name I don't like. I can imagine judge called Condoleezza, surprise surprise, and I can't imagine job interview where diploma matters less than someone's name. In today's age, nonetheless.

I can imagine someone getting short end of stick if they behave like a cow, that's where education and raising kids matter. Not name.

Rococo is very much not to everyone’s taste. I agree it’s not a crime to give a frilly feminine name. Not everyone favours short androgynous names.

The problem with Rosabelle is what the French call ‘voulu’. I suppose the translation would be deliberate - or even the favourite phrase on here ‘try hard’.

Synchrony · 07/07/2021 17:56

I like Rosabel. I would pronounce it Roz-ah-bell unless corrected.

Don’t base your name choices on Mumsnet opinions!

LtDansleg · 07/07/2021 17:59

Nothing wrong with it.

I think that's what put me off it. Imagining a policeman in a tutu.
miltonj · 07/07/2021 18:22

I don't mind 'frilly' names, but I don't like Rosabelle or any variants. How about Lucinda?

DennisTMenace · 07/07/2021 20:12

I like Isobel, but not so much Rosabel. Mainly because all the Rosalind's I have ever met become Roz and I find it sounds quite harsh. I do like Rosalie and Roise. Although Roise probably has a lifetime of Rosie to look forward to if you are in England.

GlamGiraffe · 07/07/2021 20:23

I reallylike the name Rosabel. A friend named her daughter it and she is now a teenager, she sometimes gets called rosie. I've heard so many people in real life (not necessarily to the mother) commenting that its a lovely name. Its not a wildly unusual name where i live (as in i've come acctoss a couple), its a pretty name and if you really like it definitely choose it. Its quite possibly a "marmite" name. I'm well aware my dughter has one if those names and i know lts one people dislike it however it isnt their name or their child. We made the decision based on our likes. People wont comment to you if they dislike it once you have named your child even if they dont like it, the name becomes irelevant and they acept the child as a person. Chose what you love.

Yellowmoons · 07/07/2021 20:37

I'm not a fan, sorry - I think it sounds a bit made up. Mirabel or Annabel sound nicer to me if you're keen on the 'belle' names. I really like Rose / Rosa / Rosalie, but Rosabelle is definitely too frilly for my taste. Personally, I prefer names which i feel suit both a little girl and a grown woman, and that's my issue with so called 'frilly' names. It doesn't mean there's anything wrong with using a 'frilly' name if that what you like - plenty of people love them - but if you're asking for people's opinions you kind of need to accept that other people will often have different tastes and a different point of view to you - choose a name you love and don't worry about what anyone else thinks - it would be dull if we all loved the same names.

Katefoster · 07/07/2021 20:38

I really like it

DerisorySnort · 08/07/2021 09:15

I'm not keen. It does sound a bit contrived and overembellished. I think just Rose or Isabel would be nicer.

And OP, don't forget you asked for people's opinions, so it's a wee bit silly to get annoyed in advance (or afterwards) at the responses.

HelebethH · 08/07/2021 09:27

How about Rosalia (pronounced Rose ah leah) . Has the option of being shortened to Rose, Rosie, or Leah

emmathedilemma · 08/07/2021 09:39

Definitely a name for a boat!
Rose, Rosie, Rosa, Rosalie, Rosalind all ok. Rosabelle is just too much and sounds made up.

FeedMeSantiago · 08/07/2021 10:46

Rosabel is the best of the 3. Rosa, Rose, Rosie and Belle are all good nickname options.

Of all the Rose names Rosa is my favourite. It's pretty, feminine but also has an elegant simplicity.

Rosanna, Rosemary/Rosemarie, Rosalind, Rosaline, Rosamund, Rosanne and Rosalie are all lovely too.

toastofthetown · 08/07/2021 10:48

When you ask people their opinions on names people just give their opinions. I think that Florabelle and Rosabelle are way too too frilly and Rosabella is frilly as well as being very clunky. And clearly that’s a commonly shared view.

That said I don’t think the names are actively harmful or would prevent the bearer from being a high court judge (classism in the high court judge name test notwithstanding). If Rosabelle thought her name was too frilly she could go by the simpler Rose and never have to tell anyone her full name. And if children grow up to seriously hate their names then they are free to change them.

LadySorceress · 08/07/2021 18:16

Those who claim I can hear whatever from people I ask opinions from: full stop.

Claim that my daughter will suffer from her name is simply a lie proven to be lie. I don't have to sit and let crazy classist uneducated cow lie that name has more brevity than diploma. A fucking name.

No, name doesn't have so much influence over somebody life. People say stupid things such as these and nobody's calls bullshit, but reality is that - everything else-- literary everything else- trumps impressions about name. Diploma, race, nationality, social status yes there's injustice in systems people make ---- but I never seen situation where name trumps everything else.

Yes, you can claim "I ask for opinion", but I could also say "commenter said bullshit, eat shit now, liar"

MadeOfStarStuff · 08/07/2021 18:19

Far to twee and frilly. But if you want a ridiculous frilly name then not sure a thread here will change your mind!

TatianaBis · 08/07/2021 21:01

I have no issue with frilly. I like names like Aurelia, Raffaella, Cosima, Venetia, Artemis, Guinevere.

Just because frilly isn’t your taste doesn’t mean that someone else can’t choose it or enjoy having a frilly name.

My issue with Rosabelle is not its frilliness.

ladygindiva · 08/07/2021 21:08

Love it. Dd1 has a friend called Rosabel, nn Rosy. About 23 yo. Never met another.

ladygindiva · 08/07/2021 21:09

I don't think it's frilly. It's very similar to Isabel, or Annabel.

Ellmau · 08/07/2021 21:09

It is flowery, but pretty.

What about Rosalba?

Ilikecheeseontoast · 08/07/2021 21:14

It’s a good name for a shire horse. Rosa is lovely and I do like Annabel too.

Well said op, I agree with you.
