I've always liked Harley for a girls name. I was debating wether Aria would be better for a first name but I preferred Harley. Clarke is the surname and I was wondering if Harley goes with it. What do you think of this name?

I don't like Harley or Aria and they are too similar in sounds for them to work together.

Harley is a bit unaspirational, and Aria is just nothing.

The surname is ok.

SirenSays · 06/07/2021 12:33

I like it, I agreed it can get a bit tongue twisty but I doubt she'll be naughty enough for you to be full naming her all day long hahah

Cavalierqueen · 06/07/2021 13:21

Why do names have to be inspirational? The only people I checked with were teachers because certain names seem to be, well, children with less supportive parents let's say because the child is innocent. Was advised against Lilii-Maie and Savanah. Went with Sarah as it works in Arabic and English. Boring but inspiring for US, the parents.

TheNameTheWebsiteForgot · 06/07/2021 13:30

Not a fan of Harley, sorry.

ILoveShula · 06/07/2021 13:34

@Cavalierqueen, aspirational not inspiational.

It's a polite way of saying that the name is downmarket. It's too closely linked with a product/celebrity.

Cavalierqueen · 06/07/2021 13:37

Down market? Is that what you mean when you are trying not to say chav? Do you mean a Harley won't be a barrister and will end up in Tesco? I don't get the superpowers names are supposed to hold. Parents are parents, children are children, some have rubbish names me included, some have fancy names. Doesn't mean a jot.

ILoveShula · 06/07/2021 13:42

I don't mean chav, Harley could well grow up to be a barrister or to work
in Tesco. What's wrong with working in Tesco anyway?

The name is closely linked with the motorbikes, so I find it a bit naff.

elQuintoConyo · 06/07/2021 13:44

Great for a pirate!

Tbh you won't be using all three names together very often. Harley Clarke is nice. You could add a second middle name to break up the AR flow, eg Harley Grace Aria Clarke.

If you love both names, use both names. As for the dog references - DS has a supposedly dog's name, yet I've never met a dog called it. Nor has anyone woofed at him Grin

Cavalierqueen · 06/07/2021 13:55

Love the Grace ❤️

TheVanguardSix · 06/07/2021 13:58

I like Harley Clarke... not sure about the Aria bit. I think something more traditional like Harley Eliza or Elizabeth Clarke would be better.

Not in reference to the OP’s name choice, but you’re very naive to think that people aren’t judged on their names.

Rightly or wrongly, it can absolutely be a factor in how easy someone finds it to access opportunities, including employment. I say this as someone with a fairly “downmarket” name myself.

Cavalierqueen · 06/07/2021 14:11

Read my post about Lli-maiii

ILoveShula · 06/07/2021 14:32

Are you sure you are not getting inspiration mixed up with aspiration?

Inspiration is defined as, “the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something.”
Aspiration is, “a hope or ambition of achieving something.”

Cavalierqueen · 06/07/2021 14:33

Either. Doesn't matter

Crankley · 06/07/2021 15:31

Harley for a girl is horrible. I don't get this current fad for giving girls boys' names. I'm guessing you wouldn't give your son a girl's name. If you think it's so cool, change your own name to Harley.

ChocOrange1 · 06/07/2021 15:36

Harley is definitely a boys name in my opinion.

Aria is pretty.

I'm not sure Harley Aria flows very well. I would prefer Aria Harley, not least because I prefer Aria by miles for a girl.

lurkingdh · 06/07/2021 15:37

Sounds like the name of a font Hmm. Did you consider Arial Black? Although Lucida Grande actually does have a nice ring to it.

TatianaBis · 06/07/2021 15:41

Harley is a Love Island contestant name.

thisplaceisweird · 06/07/2021 15:51

Harley I'm guessing Harley Quinn

Aria is game of thrones but you've changed the spelling

They're fine if that's who you are but just bit over done and tacky

PivotPivotPivottt · 06/07/2021 15:58

I like Harley and I like Aria but I don't think they go well together. Both are nice names in my opinion but then again I am what would be considered downmarket on here Hmm

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 06/07/2021 22:08

Aria is pretty sounding, if fairly trendy now - but when it was less popular, I'd have guessed Aria was from a musical instrument playing/opera loving family, so I don't see it as especially downmarket unlike a few pp.

I do see Harley as a bit low brow/downmarket, sorry - possibly because it used to be seen as quite a "tough" boys name (because of Harley- Davidson bikers) and now it is very "current" because of the Suicide Squad films.

Aria Clarke is nice but I'd choose a classic middle name with it- without an "ar" sound (and save Harley for a pet instead).

StarryStarrySocks · 06/07/2021 22:10

Yeah it's too much all together. How about Hadley?

Member589500 · 08/07/2021 09:40

Middle name is irrelevant really. My best friend is witnessing something for me so I just found out her middle name after 20 odd years!
Harley Clarke flows well. I don’t like the name at all but not my baby.

dreaming174 · 08/07/2021 15:02

Too many 'ar' sounds together. Sounds odd
