Sofia?
Spelt this way only. Really like it but feel like it's v popular.
Other choices include Isabella, Emilie and Ines.

No

Leftphalange · 04/07/2021 21:11

Why does it matter if its popular, if you like the name?

AnyaMoondial · 04/07/2021 21:12

It’s fine, don’t worry about it Smile

decoratedstandardlamp · 04/07/2021 21:13

Not Ines.... google MAFS Australia series 5

parttimedrifter · 04/07/2021 21:21

I don’t think it’s too popular at all!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 04/07/2021 21:23

Yes - it feels extra popular because Sophia and Sophie are popular too. On it's own Sofia may have a chance of being the only one in her class/hobby groups but when you add the number of Sophie's/Sophia's too the chance lessens. Depends on whether that matters to you or not? I think it's a nice name anyway.

Exotic Ines is not that popular in the UK (so would be a good choice in that regard), Emilie will likely be constantly misspelt as Emily here, and lovely Isabella/Isabelle/Isabel/Isobel is nearly as popular as Sofia/Sophia/Sophie.

HopeValley · 04/07/2021 21:31

Hugely popular. Doesn't matter if you spell it differently as often people won't see it written down. Isabella is very popular too. Not a reason not to choose them but worth bring aware of.

stillsleeptraining · 04/07/2021 21:31

I live in a small cul de sac. There are 6 Sophia's, all at primary school.

Saying that, the mums all say they still love the name.

fellrunner85 · 04/07/2021 21:33

She's finding out what being royal's all about...

Whysolong7 · 04/07/2021 21:34

It’s a really lovely name.

If it’s popular it means loads of other people like it.

It’s one of my favourite names.

toastofthetown · 04/07/2021 22:17

I can't tell you if it's too popular. That's a personal decision. But it is very very popular. If you combine Sofia and Sophia spellings they are a very close second to Olivia, which is the most popular name. Add in Sophie and it's the most popular by over 1500.

PattyPan · 05/07/2021 16:56

No more so than Isabella or Emily to be honest.
I like Ines but I just googled it to see in which countries it is usually spelt that way (vs Inez) and the top result was international nuclear event scale which would put me off.

SeasonFinale · 05/07/2021 17:01

If you like those names maybe you would like Elodie which is similar but different?

Lenny86 · 07/07/2021 20:41

Every other girl baby I know has Sophia or Sofia as either their first or middle name….but if you like it then use it

Camandmitch · 07/07/2021 20:56

I read once that Sofia (with it's various spellings) is the most popular newborn girls name in the world. In 2019 there were 4022 girls named either Sophia or Sofia born in England and Wales

bloominglovelyorange · 07/07/2021 23:19

I gather it's popular but I actually don't know any

Marcipex · 08/07/2021 00:09

I know a few, all about 15. They are all called Sofe anyway.

All the girl babies around here are still being called Aria/Ariana/Orianna etc Mae.

TatianaBis · 08/07/2021 11:31

Super popular but so are the others apart from Ines.

Ines needs its accent on the e (grave if French, acute if Spanish) otherwise it will be pronounced Eyens or Innes.

MitheringSunday · 08/07/2021 15:50

It's massively popular, but for a reason - Sophie/Sophia is the perfect name IMO (not at all keen on the Sofia spelling, though). That said, I called my dd something else - which is definitely the right name for her, but we didn't consider Sophie/Sophia due to the sheer popularity.

DemBonesDemBones · 08/07/2021 19:25

Yes. But so are Emily and Isabella. Does it matter to you if it's very popular?

Orangeinmybluelightcup · 08/07/2021 19:33

When I was at school there were 8 Sarah's in my year, so when I was pregnant I was keen to avoid that scenario and we picked a name we'd never heard before. But actually as birth came round it became really popular, top 5. Not so unique after all! It nearly put us off using it, but it suited her most from our list when she was born and we were set. As it happens she's the only one in her class, I know one a year above, I've heard a others out and about sometimes but not loads. My son on the other hand has a less popular name, yet there are 2 in his class and I hear his name just as much as my daughters when out and about. So unless you're going way down the popularity list there's probably an element of luck of the draw whether you cross paths with loads or a few.

Cavalierqueen · 09/07/2021 10:37

I think it's really naff to want a different name. That's why we are burdened with Lilli-Mae and the ilk. Better to just use the same of someone you love or a name you like in its own right.

Mattieandmummy · 10/07/2021 07:28

I don't think it matters if it's a popular name because your Sophia or whatever you choose will be your Sophia, her own little person.

Twickerhun · 10/07/2021 07:31

I have one with that spelling. Still love it. I meet many more Sophie’s than Sofia / sophias

IcedSpice · 10/07/2021 07:41

@decoratedstandardlamp

Not Ines.... google MAFS Australia series 5
Never watched MAF (had to google to see what it actually is, married at first sight)

A person on a later reality series having a name is not really a reason to avoid it thoigh
