Looking for an Irish boys name…

Really struggling to come up with an Irish boys name.

I do like Fionn, but we already one in the family, and I’m stuck for anything else that I can imagine myself hollering in the playground.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Oisin is my favourite Irish boys name at the moment!

Finn/Finbar or Blaney/Blane

SeanChailleach · 28/06/2021 20:56

Not sure how popular these are currently but here you go:

Flann, Flannán, Flannagán - means bright red. A very popular name for both male and female.
Fraoch, Fraochán - "Fráech mac Fídaeg, a Connachtman, was the most handsome man in all Ireland and Scotland and was the son of the fairy woman Bé Finn."
Gaoth, Gaoithín - "clever, wise" I'm guessing this is the same name as Welsh name Gethin.
Glass, Glassán - meaning green, grey, grey-blue. Glass mac Dedaid was a king of Munster. There is a St Glassán.

Thanks all.

Cian
Rian
Tiernan
Conleth

Tadgh is lovely as well.

Dannyandsandy · 29/06/2021 09:54

@BungleofWimbledon but he’ll forever be correcting people on how to pronounce his name. I have a Gaelic name and I’m forever correcting people (never in Ireland) It’s so annoying after a while!

Dannyandsandy · 29/06/2021 09:56

I also think the English pronunciation of certain Irish names is really harsh. For example, cormac rhymes with tarmac in an English accent. In Ireland it’s almost like “Cormuc”. Far nicer.

Aodh
Donnacha

Why does always come up on Irish name threads. Is it so hard for people to listen and repeat back the name?

BungleofWimbledon · 29/06/2021 14:53

I wonder this too.

Donagh is a very nice name, I think. Don't hear it around much though, don't understand why.

villainousbroodmare · 29/06/2021 15:51

Donagh is lovely! Dammit, I need another kid now.

Mammymar · 29/06/2021 16:06

Senan
Rian

Dannyandsandy · 29/06/2021 16:08

@loveisanopensore It really is hard for people. But then I have a very out there name. It’s usually most annoying when having to explain it when I meet people abroad.
