I have Sarah, Jack and Ciaran. Baby number 4 is a boy and I'm struggling with names for him. Currently I'm liking Eren Thomas.
Its very different from my other name choices so I'm worried about his name being so different

I think Thomas works better with you other names. Or Ewan?
Eren sounds a bit like Erin to me.

Nettleship · 28/06/2021 16:29

Ewan is a nice suggestion. I don't dislike Eren but it seems a bit close to Ciaran to me, and could be confused for Aaron, esp given your other more traditional names.

What about Rowan, Ellis or Rory?

bridgetreilly · 28/06/2021 19:08

Google is only giving me Eren as an anime character. Is it a name from a real culture or not? Because if so, I would be looking for alternatives from that culture which don't sound so much like a common girl's name.

StillCalmX · 28/06/2021 19:13

Not mad that. Aran, Ewan, Eoin or Odhran seem more like names.

Melitza · 28/06/2021 19:18

Lowen is a cornish boys name.

Mummyof2andapig · 28/06/2021 19:20

If I heard it I’d think you were saying Erin with an accent

ScotsMumOf4 · 28/06/2021 20:01

It's turkish.

Sorry still figuring out how to use this 🙈
My boyfriend is turkish and isn't the dad to my other kids.
The other turkish names are horrendous and he's very keen on a turkish name but I'm slightly concerned about people pronouncing it like Erin.

Thomas is my dad's name so that part will most definitely stay his middle name

Oisin is my favourite boys name and would go really well with your other names.
Not sure how you pronounce Eren but I would pronounce it likes the girls name Erin.
My favourite Turkish boys names (I think they’re Turkish) are Aslan and Ozan (with the nickname Oz or Ozzie is so cute!)

MadeForThis · 28/06/2021 20:16

Oran?

Lenny86 · 28/06/2021 20:44

I like it. What about Ilyas, Ozan or Jovan? I also like Deniz.

ScotsMumOf4 · 29/06/2021 10:07

Ilyas would have been on my list but there is already a baby in the family with the name and the boyfriend didn't like it 🙄

I love Aslan. It means lion in turkish Not too keen on ozan though.

Confusednewmum1 · 01/07/2021 04:28

Aslan/ Arslan is a great name and Ari as a nickname works well.
Cahil- sounds Irish and works with the rest - Cal for short xx

custardbear · 01/07/2021 04:51

Adlee
Eldar

Kimblebee19 · 01/07/2021 06:34

I like Eren a lot!

Dulcinae · 01/07/2021 06:57

I think Eren would be misheard as Erin.

Willwebebuyingnumber11 · 01/07/2021 06:58

Enis?

StillCalmX · 01/07/2021 07:23

Or Inis?
I think there is both an irish and a scottish island called Innis/Inis

EmbarrassingMama · 01/07/2021 09:30

That's quite tough, I can't think of many Turkish/English crossover names. Eren is probably quite a good shout.

How about:

Emin
Idris (lovely name!)
Ilyas

ShitPoetryClub · 01/07/2021 09:46

I like it.

Squeakerfoot · 01/07/2021 12:18

It's a nice sounding name, so even with the potential problem of distinguishing it from Erin, I would be tempted to use it.

I know a young Turkish man called Deniz and a Nedim nn. Ned, both of which seem easy to use in an anglophone setting?

ScotsMumOf4 · 01/07/2021 12:41

@Squeakerfoot I'm still very tempted to use it. I think my accent helps with the pronunciation of it as the second e is overpronounced so when I'm saying it out loud it does sound like the masculine form of erin.
My problem with other turkish names too is I know a lot of turkish people and I'm very keen not to be seen as naming the baby after one of his friends 🤦‍♀️😂
Deniz is nice but one of my friends has a kid Denis already. I wish naming a person wasn't so difficult lol

Ciaran and Eren sound far too similar for me.

ScotsMumOf4 · 01/07/2021 13:02

@BrownEyedSquirrel ciaran is the Irish spelling of kieran so I'm not sure how you're pronouncing them but I don't see the similarity

OP posts:
BrownEyedSquirrel · 01/07/2021 13:08

I'm Irish and pronounce Ciaran "Keer-ruhn".
Eren I would pronounced "Er-ruhn"
