Sofia

Sofia strikes me as being strong but feminine and a name that would suit from birth right through to adulthood.
I'm in the UK but much prefer the Sofia spelling.
I'm aware it may be a popular name - however, my sons name is Noah and we've met barely a handful others since he was born. I also work with children (covering a large area) and I've probably only come across 1 or 2 Sofia/Sophia's. So I'm not really concerned regarding popularity.

I'm really just looking for what you think about the name? And if you think it sounds nice with Noah?

Thank you.

I like it as a name, but I do think the Sofia spelling is odd in the U.K., unless you have links to a country that uses that spelling. I’m not sure how well it goes with Noah, but it’s fine.

AlwaysLatte · 27/06/2021 14:45

I think it's a lovely name and spelling

PumpkinKlNG · 27/06/2021 14:48

I prefer that spelling as well but she may have to correct people a lot which I guess can be annoying. I wouldn’t use it personally due to popularity but as that doesn’t bother you then that doesn’t matter

BlueSurfer · 27/06/2021 14:49

It’s popular but usually that’s because lots of people like the name. Personally, I like it although prefer the Sophia spelling.

TatianaBis · 27/06/2021 14:55

Prefer Sophia.

MsFrog · 27/06/2021 15:01

Love it. It reminds me of Sofia in The Colour Purple.

MrsMiddleMother · 27/06/2021 22:24

Love it and the spelling!

jackstini · 27/06/2021 22:59

I like it and the one I know in UK spells it Sofia - she's 5
Love Noah too

Synchrony · 27/06/2021 23:11

I like the name but would assume with that spelling it was SOFF-ya. Wouldn't be an issue once corrected though.

Kanaloa · 27/06/2021 23:33

It’s pretty. I’ve seen both spellings used, I would usually pronounce them both the same.

Camandmitch · 28/06/2021 08:49

Yes it's a nice name. I don't think the Sofia spelling will be a problem.

ILoveShula · 28/06/2021 08:54

I'd say it as SOFF-ya too.

BeachSunsets · 28/06/2021 09:12

It’s a lovely name and works well with Noah. I also prefer the spelling Sophia.

ShinyGreenElephant · 28/06/2021 11:35

Its a lovely name and spelling though you will have to correct people a LOT spelling wise (it's my dd1s middle name). I dont think its overly popular, I've only ever taught one and I know one who's a toddler

coronabeer · 28/06/2021 12:02

Not over popular? Sophia was the number 1 baby name for girls last year! Ok, different spelling but the same name. Probably just means a lifetime of correcting your spelling to the more popular one.

With that spelling I would pronounce it the same as the Bulgarian city: SOFF-ee-a.

cocoloco987 · 28/06/2021 13:10

I love Sofia, there are so many Sophias so it's a nice variation whilst being legitimate/not looking made up like some spelling variations of names.

Not in England and Wales. It peaked at #7.
LunaDreams · 28/06/2021 18:59

I'm a Sophia.

I hated it when I was younger as it was really quite uncommon then (I'm mid 30's) so I insisted on being called Sophie. I came to like it as I got older and now love it!

I doubt kids nowadays will see it as an unusual name so unlikely to have the teasing I did. I would advise against spelling is 'Sofia' though as she will spend her whole life having to correct people as will always be assumed to have the 'ph' in it

Roselilly36 · 28/06/2021 19:05

I prefer Sophie, it sounds softer to me, Sophia or Sofia are popular choices, so if you like it go for it OP.

bridgetreilly · 28/06/2021 19:10

Sof-EE-ah or Sof-EYE-ah?
