Boy honor name

Can you give me some suggestions on how to honour the name Jasmine but for a boy name? I've thought of Jasper (Persian and shares Jas start whilst being naturey), Theodore (same meaning) and James (shares loads of letters)

The whole concept of "honouring" with a name is a bit Confused to me tbh.

You either use the name or you don't. I keep seeing people try to make links between names so that they can claim to be "honouring" and all it just seems a bit contrived.

If you like the name Jasper or James then use one of them but don't try and make out it's in honour of someone called Jasmine because they're very different names.

J A S initials?

Benjamin is another name with lots of the same letters.

Jasper is my favourite option so far, fwiw.

Scarby9 · 25/06/2021 18:03

Jazz

generalkenobi · 25/06/2021 18:31

@MowldyStupidAndAssive yeah, i forgot to add that I'm changing my name so it's for me. I just want to honour my deadname and thought that Jasper was as close as I could get to honour my deadname without keeping it as a guy

In that case, I would go with Jasper Smile

lovethisjourneyforme · 25/06/2021 18:47

Oliver.

Jasmine is part of the olive family.

FelicityPike · 25/06/2021 18:55

I’d go Jasper too.
Well done and good luck with the rest of your transition. I’m proud of you. 🏳️‍⚧️

@MowldyStupidAndAssive It's a big thing in Jewish tradition. DH wanted to honor my MIL so he needed a first name that started with "A" and a middle name that started with "S" and that was considered fairly laissez-faire.

OP: I like Jasper FWIW.

noscoobydoodle · 25/06/2021 19:31

I like Jasper but also Jase and Jas/Jaz

inmyslippers · 25/06/2021 19:33

I like Jasper

Guineapiggiesmalls · 25/06/2021 19:41

I quite like the idea of starting your new name with the end of your old one, so maybe something beginning ‘Ne’ but all I can think of is Neil or Nelson which aren’t very inspiring!

Jasper is a great name, and might end up with the same ‘Jas/Xs’ nickname too?

Good luck with everything, and well done on making the change x

generalkenobi · 25/06/2021 20:05

@FelicityPike thanks a lot
@allfurcoatnoknickers thanks and yeah I'm with you on the Jewish tradition. My great grandma was Jewish but I don't practice, if I did then I'd go that route
@Guineapiggiesmalls thank you so much for the support. I hadn't thought of it beginning with Ne, I like that idea and like Nelson. And that was my exact thought for Jasper ( I could keep Jazz and JJ as my nicknames like I already use)

BertieBotts · 25/06/2021 20:15

Jasper is really nice.

You could also ask your parents what names they were considering if you were a boy?

pigglepot · 25/06/2021 20:39

Jasminder is a male name. It's Indian though so might not work unless you have that heritage.

Another option would be to keep the J initial so you would have the same initials as before.

I also really like the idea of asking your parents what they might have named you. A nice way to include them too.

Screenburn · 25/06/2021 20:57

I knew a Jared, nn Jazz - that could work?

generalkenobi · 25/06/2021 21:22

@BertieBotts @pigglepot the asking my parents is out the window because they never had an amab name for me unfortunately, only one for my brother if he had have been amab so that's his and I'd feel weird taking it.
@Screenburn ooh I like that

RiaOverTheRainbow · 25/06/2021 23:31

You can always give a few names a test drive - in Starbucks, online, chatting at the bus stop - and see what you like best.

Another possibility: Jesse, if it's not too American for you.

Scarby9 · 25/06/2021 23:37

Another, rather left field thoughtl - Jasmine is part of the Oleaceae family - so Ollie?

Although I like the Jaz names suggested so far.

NakedNugget · 26/06/2021 00:05

I think Jazz for a boy would work but I have a jasmine and we shorten it to Jay sometimes too.

RiaOverTheRainbow · 26/06/2021 00:10

Jason is another one.

generalkenobi · 26/06/2021 08:56

@RiaOverTheRainbow I like Jason
@NakedNugget oh yeah, I hadn't thought about Jay
@Scarby9 ooh yes! Ollie (Oliver or Olivier) is a fab idea

OP posts:
generalkenobi · 26/06/2021 08:57

@RiaOverTheRainbow yep, my social anxiety is bad (so I don't think I could chat to random people 😅) but the Starbucks idea is a really good one

OP posts:
RiaOverTheRainbow · 26/06/2021 17:36

Jamison is another one that sounds a lot like Jasmine.

Happenchance · 26/06/2021 20:48

Jarred - means Rose and could have the nn Jaz

LynetteScavo · 26/06/2021 20:58

Surely people have called you Jazz quite a lot- wouldn't you just use Jazz from now on? Personally I think it's a cools name as a full name, not just a nickname.
