In the same way Eric has been popping up again? Not Marcus or Marco but just Mark/Marc. Anyone know any little ones?

I teach a 3yo called Mark. I have found Eric to be jarring, to my ears it is one of the v old man names, whereas being a 70s baby I grew up with lots of Marks so seems much more familiar. Also teach a Paul and a Colin.

MegaCityOne · 24/06/2021 00:23

Yes. There are two boys under 3 I know called Mark. Good name choice.

BackforGood · 24/06/2021 00:48

I hope so.
It's a lovely name, but actually far less 'of an era' than Eric.
I've known the odd Mark in many different age bands.

Cissyandflora · 24/06/2021 05:52

It always makes me think of a stain

toastofthetown · 24/06/2021 07:38

I can’t see Mark coming back yet. As a general rules names seem to come back around a hundred years after their initial popularity - when they are great grandparent names. Mark is more of a dad name so I can’t see it taking off yet. It is still in steady use though - around 200 baby Marks born each year.

Posieandpip · 24/06/2021 11:04

No, not yet. It's still a dad/uncle name so seems dated. When it's a grandad name it will be back!

SoMuchForSummerLove · 24/06/2021 11:13

I like it! And I know a wee baby Michael. And Martin actually.

Arrierttyclock · 24/06/2021 11:49

My friends got a Mark named after her late father. I don't personally like it but I do think it's better than a lot of names out there x

Pinkypink · 24/06/2021 13:09

I def prefer Marc
And also like Marcel

ScribblyBaller · 24/06/2021 15:19

I think a lot of the Marks are just becoming parents themselves and are calling their sons after their grandad Arthur.

LilTeapot · 24/06/2021 15:22

I've never understood why there are so many Marks, I just know about fifteen in the 30-50 age group. Do people really find it such a lovely name?! Confused

SoMuchForSummerLove · 24/06/2021 15:31

Maybe a lasting passion for Mark Owen among Take That fans is making itself felt Grin

Alonelonelylonersbadidea · 24/06/2021 15:34

I think it's a bloody awful name. I don't get it at all.

SoMuchForSummerLove · 24/06/2021 15:56

I suppose it is just one of those evergreen names - after all, it's a Biblical name.

ancientgran · 24/06/2021 16:00

I've got a son in his 40s, there were 4 Marks in his class at primary school. I think it was so overdone in the 70s and 80s that it will take a while but who knows. I think it is really hard to guess with names.

I do like Michael though.

BarbaraPapa · 24/06/2021 16:10

Mark is a bit of a funny one - it's Biblical, but never seems to fall into that slot in my brain in the same way as Matthew/Luke/John/Gabriel does. It goes down the 80s schoolfriends slot (Simon/Michael/Stephen/Richard/Chris).

Ditto Simon, Michael, Jonathan, David, come to think of it.

BarbaraPapa · 24/06/2021 16:11

Dur, SAM and MATTHEW, I meant to say...

sparklyblue81 · 24/06/2021 16:11

Not yet i don’t think. I can’t imagine it in on a baby 😬

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 24/06/2021 16:17

Hope not.

Marcus is nice though.

Topseyt · 24/06/2021 16:22

I'm not keen on it. I prefer Marcus or Marco, but I see you don't.

resm · 24/06/2021 19:19

I really like Mark and the Marc spelling as well.

35andThriving · 24/06/2021 20:02

No, I don't think it's going to get massively popular any time soon.

CorianderBee · 24/06/2021 20:04

Prefer Marcus. Mark is just a bit blah

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 24/06/2021 21:16

I know a teenage Mark (dual heritage/bi -lingual family - apparently Mark works well internationally).

I think Mark's one of those classic names like Stephen and Philip that will always be used regularly but won't likely be really popular again for another 40/50 years (when all the middle aged Mark's have passed or become Great -grandfather's).

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 24/06/2021 21:19

Eric is popping up again imo because it's more a Grandad/Great-grandad name than middle aged, plus it benefits from international cred (the Scandi/Viking cool of Erik.)
