Thoughts please.

Is it one of those names that’s a bit trendy and about to be quite popular? Do you know any? It’s a really strong contender so just interested.

Other ideas are Hugo and Felix.

I like it and prefer it to Hugo and Felix.

StayCalmX · 23/06/2021 21:48

I wanted to call my son Bruno 15 years ago but I was worried itd become really popular.
I don't think it's trendy any more though as names ending in 'o' were trendy when I named my DC 2003-2006
I still like the name though.

Hugo is more timeless.

ozzyfroggy · 24/06/2021 09:39

I'd say Sacha Baron Cohen's character has stopped it getting that popular for a while.

BigGreen · 24/06/2021 09:48

I love it! It was on our list as well.

ILoveShula · 24/06/2021 09:50

I like it.

Hugo is nice but has become a bit trendy. I'd probably use Huw as I am Welsh , or Hugh as I have a secret crush on a certain aristocrat.

Felix has a nice meaning but not one I'd pick, probably because it seems a bit difficult to say and has no natural short version. I also associate it with cat food. I'd use Philip or Max, if I wanted the F-L sound or an X sound.

It's appeared on here at least twice this week so is probably on the rise. I prefer it to Hugo and Felix.

beans1992 · 24/06/2021 10:29

@ozzyfroggy oh no really? I don’t make that association instantly. But now you have said it I’m not sure. I also think of Bruno Mars.

@ILoveShula yes that’s my thinking re: Hugo

@beans1992 I wouldn't say it makes it unusable but I think it'd put people off using it.

I know a cool Brazilian Bruna which makes me like the name.

Whereas the only Bruno I know is a toothless old man.

Bruno Mars is a cool name. So if you've got a good FN/LN combi it could work!

This was my 1st thought! ^

What about Otto?

Geamhradh · 24/06/2021 10:44

I only know toothless old men as well, but I'm in Italy

PinusSylvestris · 24/06/2021 10:45

I hate it +but probably because the one I worked with was so snooty and pointedly unfriendly to me!)
Prefer Hugo.

Disfordarkchocolate · 24/06/2021 10:45

I really like it. It's not a name had ever considered but now I've had to think about it it's really nice. And Bruno Mars is great.

thisisnotwhatisignedupfor · 26/06/2021 13:47

My son is Bruno, judging from the comments and reaction of most people who meet him I'd say it's not likely to become very common any time soon.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 26/06/2021 15:40

Sorry but I really dislike the sound of Bruno (to me it has almost comedic vibes and also seems a well used pet/dog name around here - but I feel the same about Otto and that seems popular enough Confused).

Hugo is very trendy/seen a sharp rise in popularity so seems to have mostly shook off it's old posh boy image - but I still much prefer the sound of classic Hugh. Felix is lovely though imo, despite it's popularity.

If you like "o" ending names but want to avoid popular Leo/Theo/Milo/Arlo territory, how about the lovely Ivo? I also like Cornish Jago and Italian Elio.

Fairdosmun · 26/06/2021 15:46

I know one handsome French man in his forties called Bruno.

So I think of him when I hear it.

And bears, it makes me think of bears.
