Girl names to go with Rose?

Willoway · 21/06/2021 09:23

Hello all!
Currently pregnant with DC2, and have been brainstorming a few names. We've picked a boys name, but are stuck for a girls name.

We quite like the idea of having a double barrel first name with the name Rose in there somewhere. For example Amelia-Rose.

Can anyone help with any names that go well with Rose? Thanks! X

Amelia-Rose has 5 syllables in it. You do realise it will very likely get shortened in school. If you are set on doing this, then choose a name with only 2 syllables in the first part.
Marie Rose
Amber Rose

We expect it to be shortened, that's not an issue. My DH wants the name Rose after his sister who sadly passed.

Loving Heidi-Rose, thanks for the suggestion!

Rose/Rosa/Rosie have been done to death over recent years. Are there any other names you like?

Golden2021 · 21/06/2021 10:00

Aahhggg just read your update!!

Golden2021 · 21/06/2021 10:02

I would have Rose as a stand alone middle name, not a hyphenated first name. We have middle names to remember our dead relatives.

Hippohappiness · 21/06/2021 10:32

I think Rose is a beautiful standalone first name. Or fine as a middle name. Personally, I'm not keen on double barrelled first names - I think they're often thought of as quite downmarket and can sound quite cutesy. Also like Rosa and Rosalie if those are options.

Terrazzo · 21/06/2021 10:34

Love Heidi!! Heidi-Rose is lovely.

IVflytrap · 21/06/2021 10:36

Naomi-Rose
Felicity-Rose
Erica-Rose
Julia-Rose
Catherine-Rose
Lucy-Rose

Hyphenated names with Rose are starting to go out of fashion and I think will be seen as a bit dated in a few years' time. You could ways choose a longer name that incorporates Rose instead:

Rosalind
Rosamund
Rosalie
Rosemary

Or go with it as a middle name?

Amelia-Rose is gorgeous.
Other ideas.

Catherine-Rose
Sylvia-Rose

TatianaBis · 21/06/2021 11:14

Hyphenated first names are dreadful and they’re already passé. They’re generally either -Rose or -Mae.

Heidi-Rose sounds quite ridiculous.

Use Rose as a middle name.

Helena
Grace
Julia

PainterInPeril · 21/06/2021 11:26

@Willoway Could you not just use Rose as her first name? It's popular because it's a beautiful name.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 21/06/2021 15:25

Like pp I'd also suggest using Rose as the middle name, rather than hyphenating as that has become a bit of a downmarket trend now (different to the Sally-Ann's and Sarah-Jane's etc of the past).

An alternative could be to use Rose as part of the first name to honour DH's sister - both Rosalie and Rosanna are very pretty imo and have the "Rose" sound in them, while still being different enough from his sister's name.

Otherwise I'd stick with a short, two syllable first name- as with the Rose as well, anything more will likely be shortened imo (and so the Rose left out if it's important to you.). I think something ending in "ah" sounds lovely with Rose so here is a mix (some popular and others more uncommon):

Eva Rose
Thea Rose
Nina Rose
Emma Rose
Ada Rose
Nia Rose
Lena Rose
Gaia Rose
Stella Rose
Freda Rose
Leah Rose
Vita Rose
Greta Rose

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 21/06/2021 15:28

I'd just use Rose as her first name. It's so much nicer when not tagged onto the end of another name.

TatianaBis · 21/06/2021 16:24

It's tricky to use Rose as a first name given it was DH's sister's name. It might cause pain to the family.

Willoway · 21/06/2021 16:35

@TatianaBis that's the worry we have. She was very young when she passed, and it still understandably upsets MIL.

I'm not particularly fussed about being seen as downmarket or dated to be honest. We just want a lovely name for our child.

Again, thank you for all the suggestions! X

Rose alone is gorgeous and classy. A name hyphenated with Rose will automatically blend into a sea of other Amelia-Rose, Lily-Rose, Ella- Rose, Lexi-Rose etc. Can you just choose Rose? So gorgeous. Honestly name-Rose names are a bit common and there's about 60 in every school.

Theoldwoman · 21/06/2021 17:03

I like Amelia-Rose

Carrie-Rose
Emily-Rose
Lily-Rose
Ellie-Rose
Sally-Rose

Ella-Rose
Annie-Rose

Agree with others, just Rose is lovely and you can have a 'ro' or 'rosie' for short
