Ryan, Lee, or other suggestions?

Trying to think of name for baby boy, due August 2021.

Like the sound of Ryan, though had been trying to avoid an obviously Irish name due to lack of Irish heritage.

Also liked Lee, though not sure if it's too unisex these days?

Any opinions / other suggestions? Really struggling!

Ryan has become really popular recently so I wouldn't worry. We have one in the family with no recent Irish connections.

You seem to like dated names. I don't mean dated in a bad way more refreshing really. I prefer Ryan to Lee.
Other suggestions.
Paul
Luke
Mark
David
Carl.

I love Ryan, don’t see it as an Irish name and would absolutely use it

MadMadMadamMim · 20/06/2021 03:49

Very 90s boy band names in my mind.

I don't think they are retro enough to be cool yet. Just a bit naff and dated. But it's your choice.

I went to school in the 90s with a lot of ids called Ryan and Lee. Are they due a revival already?! Other boys I went to school with:

Kieran
Luke
Jason
Damien
Matthew
Liam

Not my taste, but I prefer Ryan to Lee fwiw!

Sittinginthesand · 20/06/2021 06:32

Ryan is better than Lee (which is awful imo) but they are both ‘naughty boy’ names.

Maggiesgirl · 20/06/2021 06:32

Add Marcus and you have all three of the names i couldn't decide between in the late 70's.

musicalfrog · 20/06/2021 06:35

Are you a Blue fan OP? Wink

musicalfrog · 20/06/2021 06:36

May I also suggest James and Duncan? Wink

musicalfrog · 20/06/2021 06:38

In all seriousness these are perfectly nice names and won't be in the top 100 so I'd support. They'll be the only one in their class.

romdowa · 20/06/2021 06:43

You really don't have to have irish heritage to use a name like Ryan. I've never understood this worry with people with names. I've a Hebrew name and I'm definitely not of any Hebrew heritage 🤣🤣🤣 dylan is a similar name , it's Welsh but its very cute.

MissBPotter · 20/06/2021 09:16

Not Lee! Awful.
Ryan is quite nice though. Sounds similar to Dylan, Riley, Bailey or maybe Rory if you want an alternative.

AmIPeriOrAreYouJustAnnoying · 20/06/2021 12:23

Leander with Lee for short is nice.
I don't like Ryan.

How about:

Finlay nn Fin
Lachlan
Deinan
Connor
Arran
Morgan

????

35andThriving · 20/06/2021 12:23

Ryan is the one I prefer. Smile

My nephew is a teenager Ryan and it wasn't popular then but it then surged a few years later. Not sure where it is now. I didn't like it but now it's just his name and it's fine.

Appletreehat · 20/06/2021 13:17

Lee was a popular name when I was at school in the 90s , I think there were 4 in my year group , and a couple of Ryan's. They will most likely become popular again in due course. Nothing wrong with either of them. I prefer Lee to Ryan though.

Other names you might like...

Matthew
Marcus
Warren
Zac
Jack
Jake
Jason
Robbie
Brendan
Dylan

35andThriving · 20/06/2021 13:35

Mitchell is another suggestion. Smile

Labradooodle · 20/06/2021 13:51

They both seem a bit dated. Ryan is a sur name and rhymes with Bryan so if you like it, use it.

Lee is bit flat and lifeless. I prefer LEO

ILoveShula · 20/06/2021 14:15

Both are dated. They were very popular about 25 years ago.

Skyla2005 · 20/06/2021 15:03

Liam ?
Callum
Danny

kalipso · 20/06/2021 19:59

Thanks all.

I know they are a bit 90s... but I do feel like a lot of "current" names will be 20s dated in the future, (Theo, Leo, etc) so my thought process is that at least a 90s name (that I still like after 30 years!) will be a bit different in the playground (as @musicalfrog says) and will hopefully still be useable in adult life.

@Labradooodle Leo is my cat's name 😂🙈 So in retrospect maybe a bit too close!

I did think of blue when I typed these but honestly there's no link!!

Shaun?
I like Ryan only know one under 30. Lee has been ruined for me by all the double barrelling, it's become a tag on name.
