I don't like it but my sister is having a baby and it's on her list. I wouldn't say anything to her because it's not my baby

We're all different and all like different names Smile

BeachSunsets · 17/06/2021 13:45

No

tiff00 · 17/06/2021 14:31

It's not a name I thought would divide opinion! My mother thinks it's awful but I fell in love with it last week after never even entertaining the name in my life before. Not sure if it's just the hormones because I always thought I'd name a son Olly/Oliver! I like Reuben but it doesn't feel right, maybe this urge will pass. But I love it 🤣

It's my dad's name and it suits him very well. I really like it. Rupe for short is fab.

inappropriateraspberry · 17/06/2021 14:37

Much prefer Oliver.

Iamblossom · 17/06/2021 14:37

Plus there is always Rupert Campbell Black.....

Winwins · 17/06/2021 17:23

Love it. It seems to be a really marmite, but I think it’s both cute on a little one, and masculine ona. grown up. I picture someone very handsome.

Classica · 17/06/2021 17:26

I think it's so un-masculine.

It's definitely a marmite name.

Strugglingtodomybest · 17/06/2021 17:31

No

Roselilly36 · 17/06/2021 17:31

A few years ago whilst shopping in Aldi, I heard a mum call her son Rupert, the sniggering that went on was awful. I felt sorry for the mum & the child. I think it’s just one of those names.

SoapboxFox · 17/06/2021 19:12

No, sorry. The various Ruperts I've met have all been somewhat pretentious.

DramaAlpaca · 17/06/2021 19:30

A definite no.

Mugsen · 17/06/2021 19:33

No. It's so poncy.

ItsMeantToBe · 17/06/2021 19:40

I love it!

tiff00 · 17/06/2021 19:44

Awww, I don't like it just to be poncy though, it honestly sounds like a dashing name to me, referencing Rupert Everett etc here. Not Rupert Murdoch though. I've never met a Rupert but I am from the deepest darkest recess of Wales. Maybe back to the name book, need a less contentious name.

Mugsen · 17/06/2021 19:50

Rupert Grint wears it well though.

Pogostemon · 17/06/2021 22:07

I was at university 25 years ago with a lot of Ruperts. There seemed to be dozens of them. All ex public schoolboys, floppy hair, you get the picture.

Then a long gap, and now I know two Ruperts under 2. Their parents are not remotely public school-y.

Rupert of the Rhine was pretty dashing. Rupert Bear less so.

shivermetimbers77 · 17/06/2021 22:12

I like it .. But I can see why it carries particular posh boy connotations :D

How about Rufus?

inappropriateraspberry · 17/06/2021 22:40

Not Rufus. He'll be Rufus Dufus, I guarantee.

TuvoknotSpock · 17/06/2021 22:44

Hell yes!
Rupes for short

Grognonne · 22/06/2021 16:10

I love it, it was on my shortlist. Think it’s definitely gaining popularity too as 2/10 babies in my baby class are called it!

sorryforswearing · 22/06/2021 16:23

It’s a no from me. Can’t help linking it to posh chinless wonders. Sorry.

TheSpanishApartment · 22/06/2021 16:26

No. And I have a lovely friend called Rupert. But, no.

Rhythmisadancer · 22/06/2021 16:30

are you incredibly posh?
Or maybe a bear?

TheMarzipanDildo · 22/06/2021 16:30

I quite like it. I generally like ‘un-masculine’, wet boys names though!
