Don't like it, but love Robin which could be nn or alternative.

ILoveShula · 14/06/2021 22:27

Yes. Rob, Bob, Robbie, Robin are OK but not Bert/Bertie.

ILoveShula · 14/06/2021 22:27

Bobby is ok too especially if your surname is Moore or Robson,

DramaAlpaca · 14/06/2021 22:37

Yes, love Robert. But not Bertie. Ugh.

Icantthinkofanythingrightnow · 14/06/2021 23:16

Love it

Stickytreacle · 14/06/2021 23:46

Another love it here too.

daisypond · 14/06/2021 23:49

Yes. It’s a classic name. Lovely and very adaptable.

Fridgedooropen · 14/06/2021 23:51

Love it. Use the full version then he'll have loads of possible shorter versions to pick from.

Pemba · 15/06/2021 00:38

It's fine, and I quite like Rob or Robbie. Not sure if we're ready for Bob yet (can hear Rowan Atkinson as Blackadder pronouncing it!), Bobby would be OK I suppose, maybe a little child-like.

BTW of course it's 'a classic like John or William'. It's a name that's been in use in Britain for hundreds of years. That's what a classic is. Heard of Robert the Bruce? Paul is a classic too obviously. Saint Paul? Even Alan really although it's out of fashion. One of Robin Hood's gang was Alan. Just because a name's become less popular for a while doesn't stop it from being classic.

yikesanotherbooboo · 15/06/2021 00:44

It's never been my favourite name but I am currently warming to it. It ticks all the right boxes as far as ' current' sounding nam s are concerned.

Pieceofpurplesky · 15/06/2021 00:50

It's a timeless name. Currently 3 at the school I teach in (1200 kids). A Rob, a Robbie and a Robert. Have taught all varieties.

Great name

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 15/06/2021 00:54

Nice name - not overused but very classic so doesn't feel dated imo. I like the traditional nn Robin best, followed by Bertie, but the more popular Robbie/Bobby is okay too.

IdblowJonSnow · 15/06/2021 02:29

Quite like it.

Hydrate · 15/06/2021 03:28

I like it, a good strong name.

MrsBertBibby · 15/06/2021 06:43

Great name.

TatianaBis · 15/06/2021 07:21

I’ve always liked it. One of my favourite classic names.

Like Rob and Robbie as nns.

Monkeytapper · 15/06/2021 07:26

I have a Bobby, Robert on birth certificate

EmpressWitchDoesntBurn · 15/06/2021 08:00

No, but I think the -bert sound is quite ugly & I seem to be in a minority on that. Rob as a short is fine.

VenusClapTrap · 15/06/2021 08:36

Good name. There are a few small ones around. There’s a Robert and a Bobby at the dc’s primary school, and I also met a Bob a few years ago.

EverythingRuined · 15/06/2021 09:30

Great name

Classica · 15/06/2021 12:10

Nothing wrong with the name but I don't like it much. Just a bit dull. And I can't trust a grown man called Robbie, although Rob is fine.

MarshaBradyo · 15/06/2021 12:11

I like it

Not Bob though

Miller2021 · 15/06/2021 12:17

I like it, and he can choose whatever variation/nickname he prefers as he grows up - it's so versatile. We have a Robert in the family who is currently a Rob (in his early 20s), but was Robbie as a teen.

DistrictCommissioner · 15/06/2021 12:20

I don’t hugely like Robert itself, but I love the versatility of it - Rob, Robby, Robin are all great. Not so keen on Bob & Bobby. Robin is my favourite.
