First & last names ending in the same letter

We are having a dd in Oct & we have a name that we absolutely love although it ends in an 'S' as does our surname. I never even thought it would be an issue until I made the mistake of telling a family member the name & they kept saying it weirdly and said it doesn't sound right. Thoughts?

It's not the end of the world but it would be a no from me.

What, like James Williams?

I can't see the problem with that.

LeafBeetle · 13/06/2021 12:49

I think it would be ok.

bonfireheart · 13/06/2021 12:51

It's perfectly fine, as long as it doesn't rhyme.

MothershipG · 13/06/2021 15:45

Not sure why that would be a problem? DS's first name & surname both start with the same letter & end with the same (different) letter. Although to be honest I'd never noticed that before....and he's 21 😂😂

Checkingout811 · 13/06/2021 15:47

I don’t think I’d even notice tbh

TwinsAndTrifle · 13/06/2021 15:50

I think the sound matters, that the letter creates.

These all end in "s" to use your particular example, OP. I think the first sounds wrong, the second is fine. Because the sounds are different in the second.

Marcus Dreyfus. No no.
Marcus James. Fine.

SpacePug · 13/06/2021 16:16

I wouldn't even notice. Eg David Shield would be fine. Eg Cerys Harris would be a bit much. I think it depends more on the sound of the name. Eg James Rhodes = totally fine. Francis Woods = totally fine... I think it will be okay :)

Chilldonaldchill · 13/06/2021 20:33

My dc' name does this and I only realised on reading your post. It's never been an issue at all.
I'm trying to think of a potential problem:
Carys Harris isn't great because it rhymes. But Alexis Harris would be fine. Or Jess Harris.
If you've said it out loud and don't have a problem with it then don't worry!

Tillygetsit · 13/06/2021 22:32

Like Lois Roberts? Sounds fine to me.

MintGreenLife · 15/06/2021 15:04

I'm glad I found this thread as I'm having the same issue! Baby boy due in 6 weeks time, and the first name we thought we had settled on ends in an 's', as does our surname. I didn't think it was a problem until someone pointed out it was a bit of a mouthful. When i say it out loud I don't find it to be a mouthful or an issue, so wasn't too sure what they were getting at - assumed it must be the double S thing. Good to see most people don't see it as an issue :)

Name we are thinking of is Ines ( or Iris )- surname ends in a 'Mas'.

TwinsAndTrifle · 15/06/2021 17:21

Ines is such a beautiful name, I think you can put it with virtually anything.

I would have had it for DD but we know one closely already.

Ellmau · 15/06/2021 18:27

How many syllables? If the surnames is two syllables as well I think that would sound a bit repeaty.

Whatever it is try saying the combination aloud a lot, and writing it down.
