@partyatthepalace. Thanks for that. Hmm I have only ever come across them as names in their own right. It's quite tenuous to get Elise or Elsie from the random name Elizabeth.
It’s not tenuous, it’s historic fact - Elizabeth has many forms.

Elizabeth for sure. Then you can see what shortened version suits her little face and personality.

And when older the child can choose a version of her own name which she likes best.

Which could be all of the above or Bet, Liz, Lizzie, Lillibet, etc all are short forms of Elizabeth as well as names in their own right these days.

Eliza

Elise/ - my best friends name so I’m biased but she is intelligent and kind- and it’s not chavvy at all- Elise has always been a classic French name

SionnachRua · 13/06/2021 13:13

Elise is beautiful and elegant.
Eliza and Elsie - scullery maids.
Elisa is ok. I have no opinion one way or the other, it's just...there...as a name.

I wouldn't use Elizabeth unless you're happy to possibly end up with a Beth (which is a nails down a chalkboard name for me).

I like Elsie best but would you Elspeth as the long form and Elsie as the nickname.

Eliza is lovely too.

I prefer Alyse to Elise

MerryMarigold · 13/06/2021 14:00

Also really hate 'Liza' which Eliza may well end up being.

FortunesFave · 13/06/2021 14:14

Elise sounds a bit common...sorry.

MySocalledLoaf · 13/06/2021 14:17

Elise.

I really love Elise. I'm always baffled by the comments online about it being chavvy, I think of it as a sophisticated name. It must vary by region.

TooTiredForToday · 13/06/2021 18:29

Elise is our front runner. It's not at all chavvy where we are. Confused

Kangaroo1 · 13/06/2021 18:32

Eliza

Fifilafrog · 13/06/2021 19:19

Elise is a beautiful classic French name. Not chavvy at all. Quite the opposite to my mind (I'm half French).

FortunesFave · 14/06/2021 14:05

Elise is extremely common in the region I'm from. I accept it's a classic, French name but so are lots of names which have unfortunately been ruined.
